I try to go for around 1.3 - 1.5 grams of protein per pound of bodyweight on me (i.e. : 165 lbs, 210 grams of protein).
It'll be tough coming up with the money considering you don't have a job but Scivation Whey, Optimum Nutrition, and Respect are some top of the line whey products.
Personally, you might be better of going with a creatine product. Most are a lot cheaper than the whey products. Controlled Labs Green Magnitude is great tasting and very beneficial (I've gained three pounds of muscle over the last two weeks), Muscle Tech's Cell Tech Hardcore is an awesome product, and Gaspari's Size On has proved to give some people MAJOR gains.
