Experimenting for one day isn't going to do shit, give it a try for a few weeks and if it truly isn't working, move onto something else.

Well 5x5 is more of a "noob" program. I would NOT suggest heavy singles, doubles, etc to someone who is not experienced with lifting. I have never met an inexperienced lifter who didn't make huge gains from the 5x5.

This program doesn't have much too it, but it is exactly what you need. Ectomorphs can't and shouldn't have any workout routines that take more than 1 hour, and you want as many compound lifts as possible. If you're looking to gain weight, you want 3 full body workouts per week with no back to back workout days. Bench presses, overhead presses, squats, deadlifts, etc. will do you wonders.

Why would an ecto want to do full body workouts?
I've found the best thing to do is sticking to basic exercies
Squats, Deadlifts, Pull-Ups, Bent Over Rows, Military Presses, Incline Bench Presses, Flat Dumbbell Bench Presses, Dips, Curls.
High Reps, Heavy Weight. High Calories, High Protein, High Carbs, Moderate Fat.
Doing all those complex programs with complex exercises and movements over the years was a huge waste of my time.

Show me more then 50 people who have had success with 3 total body workouts a week. No competitive lifter (body builders, PLers, strongmen) use those. The only program that I would recommend for that is Chad Waterburys TBT, but even then there are sooooooo many other great programs out there. Follow that 5x5 and youll see huge gains. Afterwords find a similar program that is a little more demanding, or keep doing 5x5 just jack the weight up.

I know some people who have success with routines that have full body workouts, and I myself prefer them but don't find them as effective.
What I will say I think the most important thing and the reason for a lot of my lack of progress(though I have progressed) is simply focusing on adding weight consistently on all your big compound movements. Do this and eat a lot and you can't but gain size. Don't ever get too caught up in findind "the right program".

Very good point. I just mean that few of the people who choose to adopt a TBT style find the success you could with a push pull squat or a body part split

If an ecto is wanting to gain weight, he is going to need to work more muscles more often than a meso would need to. Only working out each muscle group once a week isn't going to cut it.
