Green Tea and Fish Diet...does it help in MMA?

I know about all of the positives and health benefits of drinking green tea or any tea for that matter and eating a lot of fish. But does this have any advantages in the MMA world? Just wondering, if so, what are the advantages and are there any disadvantages. I eat like most americans sometimes - burgers, fries, soda, snack shit. But I drink a lot of green tea and other tea, and I eat fish at least 4 meals a week. Lately I have been drinking nothing but water and tea and very little amounts of Mt. Dew and such. (haven't had any in 3 days now) I still eat snack foods and candy bars and cookies like crazy though. I am hypoglycemic so it is near impossible for me to not eat this stuff. I am not overweight in the least bit though, thanks to my hypoglycemia the only positive that comes with this disease is that I burn fat and sugar like a ****ing machine and never gain weight no matter how much shit I eat. Plus I am only 20 so that helps too and I have been physically active since I could walk so my metabolism is great too. And I'm sure eating fish all the time for the last 5 years helps too. Anyway, I kinda went off topic but I wanna know if there are any kind of advantages or disadvantages a traditional Japanese diet would have in MMA. Any aspect at all - training, cardio, strength, weight, speed, anything at all that has anything to do with MMA. Thanks in advance to Onganju hahaha.

Oh... That last part there made me laugh...

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not a nutritionist and I'm not knowledgeable on dietary stuff. The only things I can recall is that green tea is an anti-oxident and helps your system filter things out. The thing with the other "junk" type foods is that they are high in carbohydrates. If I remember right, for every gram of carbohydrates your body takes in, your body will synthesize 4 grams of water to process it. So in essence, the junk food just doesn't sit there, but it promotes the gaining of a lot of water weight to process it out of your body.

That's where the fish comes in. It is high in protein, and unlike more land-born meat it is very easy to digest and process, and does not have an excess amount of fat. When it comes to cutting weight, killing carbs and taking in high-protein foods works wonders. But I think most of that is stuff that's known from the current "Atkin's Awareness" state that everyone's in.

It doesn't matter if you agree or disagree... As long as I don't bore you and I spark a moment of thought, my goal is achieved.

My insight:

I think it's a good idea if you're trying to drop to a lower weight class or just trying to better your cardio and diminish your dependence on brute strength.

I know that when Randy Couture dropped from heavyweight to lightheavyweight he removed red meat and fish became his primary source of protein, along with alot of green, leafy vegetables.

Like I said, probably better for someone trying to work on their cardio and/or lose weight. Depends on the fighter.

Thanks for bringing this thread back to life IronMan, I almost forgot about it. I have been drinking nothing but Green Tea, water, juice (vegetable/fruit), and milk for almost 2 weeks now. I have had approx. 20 ounces of soda in 2 weeks. I feel great! I have so much more energy now and I don't drag ass as much anymore. I have upped my fish consumption to about 7-8 meals a week and my stomach feels much healthier. (My stomach always feels like shit...until now). I am just trying this diet out because I'd like to be healthy and I know I have not been eating right. I made this thread cuz I was curious if this kind of diet is used in MMA as well. Probably just with the japs...maybe that's why I love green tea and fish so much (I am 25% jap). Anyway thanks for the replies I didn't think anyone would have an answer for me.

I don't know about alot of guys. Like I said, Couture used it and that speaks for something, imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if guys like Takanori Gomi were using it. The Japanese guys in lower weight classes seem to have this incredible speed and cardio about them.

What you're starting to feel the effects of is what Ong mentioned. That's the anti-oxidants cleaning out your system. Its amazing how much healthier you feel, you weren't completely aware that you didn't feel healthy before.

Yes ever since I started drinking the right liquids consistantly (about 2 weeks ago) I have been coughing like hell. I've been a half-pack a day smoker for about 6 years and I was hacking black shit up for 2 weeks and just today I finally feel cleaned out and I'm not coughing up mucus lol. I'm liking this diet. I'm cutting back to 4 cigarettes a day though so I'm sure that helps too. I drink about 4 cups of green tea a day...I better never get cancer.
