Weight lifting everyday?

If you work out a certain part of your body everyday, will you get stronger than if you had worked out every other day? I don't know if it's true, but I heard that people work out every other day to get bigger, not necessarily stronger.

Getting bigger doesn't really concern me. I want to get stronger, and to be a better fighter. Looks and impressing girls don't matter to me (I'm not gay, don't get me wrong, but I'm not going out of my way to impress girls).

Thanks.

never work out the same muscles two days in a row your muscles need time to build up again before you can work out again if you do work out two days in a row on the same muscles you might actually do damage to your body i also suggest protein shakes before or after your work out helps muscles recover fast

For a three day a week program seperate it into these muscle groups(kiss and will help you gain.) 1.)arms,chest. 2.)legs 3.) back, shoulders 4.) abs, calves(fill in whenever, near impossible to overtrain).

TRAINING SHOULD NOT TAKE MORE THEN 45-60 minutes if your sitting in the gym for two hours you are NOT working.

Your going to want to load creatine pre and post workout, I would suggest Bodybuilding.com - BSN NO-Xplode - Extreme Nitric Oxide & Creatine Surge! On sale now!

First and foremost you NEED TO EAT ALOT OF food. Here is an example of my daily routine(nobody is ever perfect)

8am: 3 eggs,1 cup oatmeal, 1/2 peace of grapefruit
11am: Either a whey shake+fruit or 2 hb eggs+fruit
2pm(preworkout): 2 peaces of wheat bread+can of tuna + green veggie.
4pm(postworkout): Muscle milk(1/2 water 1/2 milk) + fruit.
Now if I am training in mma that night (6-8:30) I will eat again at 5:30 which is usually a veggie+portion of protein+some complex carb(sweet potatoe etc.)

8:30 protien bar(or shake)

10pm veggie, fish or steak or chicken. > sleep.

I carry a 1 gallon jug of water everywhere with me, I look like a nerd but oh well! 1-1.5 gallons a day.

NOW about supplements, DO NOT go with xyience they are VERY overpriced compared to the same supplements from other companies. Get yourself a good multivitamin, 100 whey, muscle milk+creatine(glutamine if your training twice a day) and your set.

Here are some great supplements dont waste your money on gimick ones(there are alot of them).

Bodybuilding.com - Optimum 100% Whey Protein - With Faster-Acting HYDROWHEY! On sale now!
Bodybuilding.com - Universal Animal Pak - The Ultimate Training Pak! On sale now!
Bodybuilding.com - CytoSport Muscle Milk - Muscle Growth And Repair! On sale now!

Now you need to really tinker with your diet to fit your bodyweight(get body for life from Bill Philips) and last but not least TRIAL AND ERROR+ LOG EVERYTHING YOU EAT so you can understand what is and what is not working for YOUR body. Good luck!
And yes stronger entails gaining muscle=weight=size.

Basically if you work out the same area everyday, then you will end up injured and weaker/smaller than before. Because after working an area your muscle that was worked gets teared slightly, then recovers over a few days bigger and stronger than before, so if you work out when youy muscle is still recovering from the slight tear from the previous day then it will get damaged worse and take weeks/sometimes months to recover. This is off the top of my head so im pretty sure this is how it works.

I did that on the wrestling team and got stronger not bigger. you will lose all of you speed and flexability if you get too big. Do weight training no weight lifting.

weight trianinglow weight many reps. builds strength(phisical and mental)and indurance.
weight lifting high weight few reps like one or two.
builds stringth and size

Yeah, that's why I made this thread - I really don't want to get big. I mean like Bruce Lee once said in one of his essays, "Size is never a true indication of muscular power and efficiency. The smaller man usually makes up for the imbalance of power by his greater agility, flexibility, speed of foot, and nervous action."

You guys scare me with all these consequences you can face from working out everyday...I guess it'll be smarter for me to work out every other day. Hopefully, I'll get stronger, not bigger...

Thanks a lot guys.

I think that works for those with fast metabolism - I'm chubby, with slow metabolism, lol. Thanks though.

Please dont fall into myths like "Gaining muscle slows you down" WRONG, if you life right you will get stronger/faster. No it will not make you less flexible its 100% dependent if you STRETCH or not, the bigger I have gotten the more limber my previous injuries have become.

Please for the love of god go pickup any basic nutrition book(body for life is GREAT to start with) because you obviously dont know ANYTHINGGGGG about nutrition or training. PLEASE GET EDUCATED.

No one's saying don't work out everyday. They're saying (accurately) to not work out the same muscle two days in a row. I'd say work out 5-6 days a week, and do one day of pure cardio. Especially if you're training to fight. I just go and play basketball for a couple hours once a week to give my muscles a rest.

Abs and back you can do everyday though!

Whoa, relax, bro. I'm not acting like I know anything - that's why I ask people and basically believe everything I hear.

K, gotcha. Thanks, I'll do just that.
Just one question: aren't you supposed to work out your back no more than once a week? That's what I heard, it could be wrong...as kyle pointed out, I don't know a single thing about these kind of things. I wonder why I'm so out of shape, lol.

BTW: I play basketball almost everyday. lol

Well, everyone will tell you something different. But in my studies (I took a few courses in school) and secondary research, I was told that core exercises can be done everday. That would include lower back and abs.

But make sure you do some research of your own not from an online forum before you start.
