Beginner Conditioning And Strength Training??

HI,

This is my first post so eres hello to u all, Can anybody help me out with possible ideas for a Beginner at MMA, ive recently started training at my local MMA GYM, they focus on kickboxing, MMA and Escrima....mainly but obviosly theres a lot of grappling and floor work...

Im coping well with the training now but hey thats only been three weeks since i started...I was hoping to see whether there are some good home workouts that you can do, or maybe down my local football field? I need a lot of cardio really, i get gassed easy...

Any help would be good and appreciated ten fold....

Thanks if you post back, im after enough info to keep me occupied on non class days and in the morning befre work, maybe some running or skipping drills...

Any help or advice is welcomed...

Thanks

Showerman

For Strength search google for either Bill Starr's 5x5 or Rippetoes.

Thanks, is there a huge difference between running for up to 5 miles on a regular basis or would shorter interval training be more benifitial??

Im in two minds whether to be trying tyre drills with a sledge aswel..ive seen some good write ups about the benefits..

You should probably do interval training and circuits like the APL . You are training to do MMA, not run a race.

DO you have many ideas as to what i can do?? I find hill sprints are killers! Good for the old lungs tho...

For my conditioning at the minute ive got a large holdall which ive filled with little plastic sand bags and ive been doing bent rows and squats etc with them, i will get progressivly heavier over time...

Nutrition is my down fall really, i have tried many different varieties but it seems like hit and miss when it comes to gaining any good lean muscle weight, i am tall with slim build so I find it hard to pack it in, i dont want to body buld, just have decent size and strength lean muscle, but will all the power and explosivmenss that i need...

Compound lifts, heavy weight and a lot of food. Do the 5x5 like SIC suggested and eat a lot.

I've always like the APL stuff

And Ross

I remember the days when I used to do hill sprints....not fun haha.

I assume you are a coke or speed addict, cos that energy sure as hell aint coming from your peach yoghurts or protein shakes.

Rosstraining.com is spot on! I have an ebook from MR Ross Training,(not sire of his full name)- it has loads of compound lifts and sprints...

I will check out APL, im hoping to train as hard an efficient as I can and reap the benefits!

Loads of people have suggested fish and lots of chicken for lean muscle gains, trouble is im not a big fan of fish which doesnt help! I suppose you have to speculate to accumulate tho! Supplements are helping for weight gains, ive been having a mixture of gainer(carbs) and protein shakes also, although my shake of choice is a tad dry if you know what i mean, very bitty..maybe its the soy? I dunno...
