Post Muay thai weight training

Hello, i have recently joined a muay thai class and i must say ive made great progress and i have had one seminar with Emil Zoraj and now i must say i am extremely motivated. Im only 15 years old so hopefully if i stay motivated i could have a future in this and i am 10 stone and 3 pounds. and my question is what sort of weight training should i do i asked emil zoraj and everything he said was good but most of the stuff i am not aloud to do because it can stunt my growth except bench press so if any of you know any sort of weight training i could do please say...? and i go to muay thai classes 3 times a week..also is it better to lift heavy or low weight with high reps ? Thanks

I would recommend not doing weights until you are at least 16 as I don't think it's healthy to do them until then. Don't worry though you can still do strength and conditioning training without weights, you could work a routine with body weights and CV training which would be more beneficial for Thai Boxing and your health. Although if you decide that's lame and are going to do weights anyway I might as well tell you how to do them properly. Lifting depends on what you would like to gain most, lifting heavy weights at low reps will gain mass, that's what Power Lifters do. Whereas lifting lighter weights at higher reps will gain strength, that's what most Fighters do because of weight classes.

I would say for someone of your age start of with some bodyweight exercises and plenty of core work. Doing this will help you to prepare your body for when you do start a resistance programme. When you do start using weights get someone to teach you proper technique before you start trying to lift any serious weight. Learn the technique on large compound exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bent over rows, clean and presses, high pulls, chin ups etc.
Below are some bodyweight exercises you could start with.
Upperbody: Press ups, close hand press ups, tricep dips, chin ups
Lowerbody: Squats, single leg squats, side lunges, step ups, reverse lunge, jump lunges, jump squats
Core: Plank, side plank, floor bridges, crunches, leg raises, oblique twists
Cardio: Burpees, squat thrusts, jacks, vertical jumps.

Ok thanks for these answers they were really helpful one more question. well one of my teachers said that u shudnt lift to get bigger if u want to fight as if u make ur self heavier it will be harder to fight u shud stay in ur natural weight division but since im 15 does this rule apply?

When fighting you have to fight in weight classes, so if you were 5" 5 and you natural weight was about 60kg and you fought at that weight you would fight guys who were similar size, but if you power lifted like mad and ate a billion calories a day you could easily get to 100kg but then you would have to fight guys who were naturally that weight and they would be much bigger than you. So they would have a big advantage over you and that's not a good thing to give your opponents. You also need to keep in mind that most people cut weight for fights so the 100kg guy that you were fighting would be 100kg on the day of the weigh ins but would be 5 to 10kg heavier than that on the day of the fight giving them another advantage over you.
