Starting MMA
Hey guys I am wanting to start MMA and would love some advice.
I am from Utah, 25, 6'4" and about 280 right now. I have lifted on and off since I was twelve and really want to start fighting. ning I am currently training on my own in a gym untill I can afford to join a MMA training center I haven't really found anything on MMA training splits or anything like that. Does anyone have any usefull advice? Thanks, BK |
Without being in a MMA gym, my suggestion would be to get on a LEAN diet and start daily cardio workouts. 280 is f'in huge. It takes ALOT of energy to move that kind or weight around. In MMA strength helps but cardio is more important IMO. Just my 2 cents..

Thanks bro. I am definatly stepping up my cardio. I want to drop down to 250. I am not worried about my strength. I wish there was more I could do but looks like I will just have to do this untill I join an MMA gym.

Hey man you would get a lot more answers if you posted this in this section.
http://www.mmaforum.com/mma-newbie-section/ And you can only do so much without getting actual training. When I was doing boxing, I used to grapple a lot and I got alright at it. But when I started taking BJJ classes, I found out that I was doing a lot of stuff wrong. I would definitely try and get some kind of training if I were you. For the time being, just make sure you maintain good cardio and stay disciplined in your training. Have fun and good luck! |
Moved to the training and nutrition forum.
If you're just getting started, sifting around here for advice is probably a good start. |
