coordination

Hello all, I`m an absolute novice when it comes to the art of boxing/mma and i`m now using kick boxing as a way to get fitter and lose unwanted fat.

I`ve started going to my local boxing gym to get started and had a couple of sessions with my PT, who is well into mma, he says i have alot of power but no coordination, on the mitts I will do timed rounds with him, he says my power is good but i take my eye off he`ll slap me round the head with the mitts telling me to look at him not the mitts, I know this is all part of learning and i dont mind it at all,

my question is how do i improve this is there anything i can do to train myself to stop looking at the mitts and to get better coordination?

I want to get the power, speed and coordination right before i start sparring and get the s@@t kicked out of me..

thanks for any advice

LOL.. I've been doing this for just over 1 1/2 years and just got comfortable on my feet to the point where I enjoy sparring. Alot of it I've found is just muscle memory, getting used to the environment, and time in the game. Stay with it. It will get better!!

Try using a speed ball or floor to ceiling ball. Or look at buying yourself a reaction ball and throw that against a wall and try and catch it. Have used that with my clients in a squash court and its a great workout for improving reaction and quick feet.

hi thanks for that i have both a speed ball and floor to ceiling dodge ball, I dont know if they are that good tho i bought a bbe full kit along time ago and have a very heavy bag, speed ball and floor to ceiling ball.

the speed ball bounces very slow tho, i have seen them where if they are hit once they will bounce back and forth lots of times b4 stopping where as mine you hit it once and it bounces 1 and a half times then stops, (i have ordered a new one) and the floor to ceiling ball ropes are far to flexable... think i need to buy a new one of them aswell.

I am on with finding out which reaction ball to buy...

thanks again for anymore advice
