how do ufc dudes lose weight so fast?

So I hear sometmes that some fighters have to lose a certain amout of weight in a week in order to fight a certain person. Like example I heard of some dude that had to lose 20 lbs in two days to fight someone. so I was wondering how do they lose that weight so fast? in the ufc atleast.

that link has a detailed description of what goes on. Basically, all they do is lose water weight, through a method called cutting weight.

simply all they are doing is severly dehydrating themselves, With a doctor or trainer present in case andything goes wrong. They do this for small amounts of weight. Body fat % canaffect this greatly small guys with low body fat can only drop small amounts while someone with higher bodyfat can lose alot more. This is not recomended if you need to fight the same day.

It's unhealthy to loss body water and not fat . I've got a magazine and it says that some boxers still beleive today they can drink to much water and it's total utter rubbish .I posted a thread about water intake a couple of months ago and asked how much water the forum drank and some said about a gallon a day .I noticed it does improve performance alot but have drank to much before a run and it made me sick .You should try drinking loads of water and eating next to f--k all , then work out , that way you loss fat and not water .If you spit in a cup and dehydrate then as soon as you rehydrate it just goes straight back on because it's water you loss , plus your risk of injury skyrockets when your dehydrated .If your trying to make weight for a fight then it's obviously ok because your bodyfat should be low anyway

Yeah. A lot of it is dehydration and losing as much water weight as possible, but I'm sure it's combined with a very large amount of HIIT (High intensity interval training) cardio to melt off as much additional fat as possible beforehand. You can get some serious losses with HIIT as long as you stay focused and dedicated. It can be very difficult to do and utterly exhausting.

As a side note:

Be very careful when trying to lose weight rapidly. If you aren't careful you can torch your muscles and end up losing lean mass if you train too intensely. Once your HR gets up to a certain point, your body can no longer effectively pull from glycogen stores, and you start to metabolize muscle for energy instead of fat+carbs. Not good.
