Any tips for a 10km road charity race?

I'm looking to do a 10 km organized road race. The race is June, so I do have time to train. As the race is for charity I hope some of you could give me some good training advice or just some tips for running it.

Cheers

ya man...just get up and run everyday...when i was in grade 10 i ran a half marathon...all i did was get up everymorning and run like 12 km steady....then the longest i ran coming up before the race was 18 km i think.....if u can already run 10 km...i suggest running it on a regular basis....if ur new to running build up on shorter runs....do 3 km one week then keep adding a km every week till u can do 10....if you're looking to run it for a good time buy a heart rate monitor and work off your heart rate percentages...see how fast u can go at 80% percent of your heart rate and keep working from there....i dont really know wat ur stats are i'm just throwing out your ideas...training with a buddy is really good too

DO NOT run the day before.

some interval/sprint training couldn't hurt with regard to endurance.

a lot of runners like to have 2-3 days a week devoted to speed, 2-3 days devoted to distance, altho this is not specific to training for a race.

stretch after as well as before, since stretching after will help muscle recovery

ebowers has a little shameless behaviour in the past
yea, this is my first post on this board, but anyway I ran a 10 mile race a few months ago, the way I trained is i would go an hour on an eliptical machine straight with the resistance and incline at 7 and the reps always above 200. If you can do that for a couple weeks you can run endlessly. also switch eliptical training with running on a track for as long as possible shoot for a goal though. Also one more final note, if you dont already own some buy a good running shoe, i made that mistake my first time and the front of one of my toes almost fell off.
