Trying to Gain weight

Well i'm not an MMA fighter but i almost train like one.

I'm 17, 5'11 and 162 pounds, i would be around 170 but i lost 10 pounds from being sick recently.

I work out 4 times a week, come home eat breakfest/lunch then i eat some pasta/carb meal before i hit the ice for training (Yes i'm a hockey player)

I come home and eat and eat....

I prefer not that take any sort of substance that is boardline steroids because of drug tests and such so i was wondering, what is a good way to gain weight?

If you aren't gaining weight, then you aren't eating enough. It's not that complicated

As young as you are and as active it will be hard to gain weight. Try adding more protein and caleries. Look into shakes there are plenty of products out there that will pack the weight on ya. Just be carefull most of those will put water weight on ya.....Im no expert so I hope this helps a little

Im backwards from you Im cutting weight

Thanks. I know it's hard to gain while your young but it really impresses the scouts and coaches if your 170-180 and only 5'11.

I'll try what you guys suggested, thanks for the help

My buddy is on a program... it caters to people who are 'hard gainers' and have a tall, lean, slim body type.
Basically it calls for downing a 'shake' in addition to their meals... but this shake consists of stuff that should put lean body weight on... you really want to avoid merely putting any kind of mass to gain.

Its what the above people have stated already... increase your caloric intake with 'good' fats + fiber, protein, carbs. So he eats what he usually eats + a shake... which is about 1000 calories. It has good fats from 1 cup nuts/seeds (almonds, walnuts, cashews), 1-2 cups spinach, 30-40gms of protein, and then fruit (banana, strawberries, blue berries).... blend the crap outta it with almond milk or water (or ice). Its about 3 cups worth each meal.

Hes been on this program for about a month or so and has put on 10lbs of lean muscle.
(Hes a 'hard gainer' ... 6 ft, 170lbs... now hes at 180)

Dam, that sounds pretty good. I go to training camp in around 2-3 weeks so i could probably put on at least another 5 pounds.

Thanks man!

Squat heavy as hell twice a week, drink a gallon of whole milk a day, get 8+ hours of sleep a night, and eat a boat load.

I heartily accept the motto, "That government is best which governs least"; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically.

Buy some protein and make your own shakes. Mix the powder with whole milk and peanut butter.
