relaxing after MMA : I can't sleep
Hi guys!
after doing MMA classes for one or two hours I eat and take my shake and sit down, watch tv and read too. but can never ever get a full nights sleep! the next day I feel like sh*t cause I haven't slept properly cause I keep thinking about take downs, submissions and combinations!!! I should mention that I work in an office, so MMA IS the best part of my day! Anoyone recommend anything for relaxing and turning MMA off in my head so I can sleep? I've heard yoga or meditation is good |
I'll typically take a mild sleeping aid like diphenhydramine. When my mind refuses to shut off elevating my arms above my head helps too, blood is flowing to your arms and not just your brain.

The one thing I find that helps me after an exhausting day in the gym or an 8-hour day is to draw up a bath.
This may sound like a wive's tale but it seriously helps. For me it takes 20-30 minutes before the tub is completely full,I'll run cool water for 2-5 minutes so it is bearable to sit in. Once and awhile I will have some dish-rags or cloth to wipe off the sweat that pours off of me. It'll take 5-10 minutes before you will be dripping with sweat from your chest, head, arms, neck, shoulders. I like to put a board over the tub and take a book in and read for 20-25 minutes while I'm in what I like to call my "sauna-bath" It is comparable to sitting in a regular sauna. The loss of water will drain your energy to a degree, but it is very therapeutic for me to soak off the pain in warm water. |
sorry for a double-post
I tried this the other night as well,
I boiled up a cup of "dry-weight" white rice, I threw in some diced garlic and some herb mix I enjoy. I also threw 6 medium eggs into my frying pan and scrambled them without any added ingredients. When I looked up on the calorie intake I was blown away, it amounted to 1,000 calories. Even though this is a large meal it has your carbs and protein. I had done the bath, and made the meal and I was crashing about an hour after I was finished with the 15-minute meal. |
