What Type Of Muay Thai Bag Do I Buy??
I train in MMA 4 times per week and want to buy a Thai heavy bag to practice punching, high, & low kicks at home. I am unsure as to the weight & height of the bag I should buy. If it matters, I am 5'8" 155lbs. I was thinking of the 6' 100 lb bag. Should I go up or down in weight? Thank you.

You should probably go up in weight cause the guys you'll be fighting are alot heavier than 100lbs. That way you'll be preparing your body for actual kicks. Believe me I know cause when I've kicked heavybags, I can feel the force go into my shins!

6'ft is good, that way you can practice head kicks without kicking the stupid buckles or straps that are more abrasive.
I'm not sure what Kanto is talking about with opponent weights but 100lbs is fine. Just remember for shin conditioning kick as close to the bottom of the bag as you can. Tigerbalm helps when you're starting out.
tip: I mark on my heavy bags with duct tape where the liver, chin, and sciatic nerve would be - assuming the person is average height of 5'9"-10".

What buckles are you talking about? And what I was talking about when it comes to the weight is that you'll be fighting guys a bit heavier than 100 pounds so you should pick a bag that is closer to the weight of fighters you'll be fighting. That way you'll be training your leg for that kind've weight!

Usually the guys you're fighting are not hanging chained to the ceiling. You don't transfer weight in that way.

Ok, but bones can still take alot of punishment. Like I said I kicked heavy bags before and it felt like my shin was literally going to snap. You have to build stamina into your legs!

In the past when Muay Thai was a military skill, there were no Muay Thai gloves (Thai Boxing gloves). At that time soldier only bind their wrist with rope or sling and use Muay Thai art to complement their sword fighting. Since Muay Thai became sport, the Muay Thai rules stated clearly that all boxer has to wear Muay Thai gloves in their fight. The main reason is because the gloves can reduce the impact force in order to protect your fist and your opponent from bruises injury.

Wait, Muay Thai used to be a military skill? No wonder in it's raw form it is meant to kill. I can understand taping the hands!

I think you've just answered to a spam bot. It looks like there are several around in this forum. Usually they look like this: Poster has 1 post, that post has no real connection to the topic but puts in a text that only has key word connections and at the end there is a link to some pay side or so.

Yeah, I've had to put up with those spom bots before. There was this one time where one of those was advertising for NFL jerseys and I told them to get off. Not only did they get off but the post got deleted!
