Acidophilus

Acidophilus

Anyone who listen's to Rogan's podcasts will have heard of this stuff. It is probably the most commercially available probiotic unless you include yogurt.

OKAY. Does anyone here use it? I have never used it, but I am going to start. I would be interested to hear anyone's personal stories, and I would also be interested to know what size you started out with.

To put it VERY simply: I have the option to begin with a "2 billion active cell" pill, and a "5 million active cells" pill.

Basically, I am wondering if I should start out slow, or if I should go for the stronger strain.

Well the yogurt I eat daily contains acidophilus, but I don't know if or how it's healthier than other lactobacilli, I just buy it because it happens to be the cheapest brand. I've never used lactobac capsules other than a few times before traveling abroad, to prepare the stomach for the unfamiliar bacterial flora. Didn't notice anything myself, but I've heard some people's stomachs can get messed up in the beginning before they get used to it.

hmmmm... I picked up a super strain in capsule form. "5 Billion Active Cells". Going to start taking it when I wake up.

Also bought:

B100 complex
Beta Carotene w C+E
Omega-3 Select fish oil capsules
and finally, my zinc tabs.

On top of this I regularly use hemp protein in my smoothies.

This is all way, way overboard for a starter, but I need a change. My diet could not get more healthy, and it could take months before I see differences from these supplements, but it's better than sitting and waiting for magic.

As long as you don't go overboard with the beta-carotene. Seems like the adverse effects of excessive beta-carotene or vitamin A intake far outweigh any risk of deficiency, especially if you have a good diet.

Btw I assume you're not a smoker, but if you are, then definitely stay away from beta-carotene/vitamin A.

Hey, I didn't see this advice before, but I actually read up on Beta-Carotene and I decided to not start taking it. I don't smoke for the record, but I eat so many orange fruits and vegetables that it just can't be necessary to take the Beta-Carotene.

Thanks for looking out, Couchwarrior!

As for the Acidophilus, Almost 2 weeks in
