UFC on FX 3: Seth Baczynski vs Lance Benoist

Round 1 - Chris Adams in charge of this welterweight bout. Touch of gloves, and the two circling each other. Benoist goes high with a kick and wraps for a guillotine when they lock up, but decides the better of it. Benoist mets a high kick after two front kicks. Baczynski charges with a combo but no dice. Left hook scores for Baczynski. They lock up in center cage and Boinest trips to the canvas, handily sliding into guard. Baczynski tries to make him pay from the bottom and takes a high guard. Baczynski posts an arm and scoots back to the cage while Benoist punches away. Left hands land for Benoist, and the referee stops the action. Replay shows a blatantly illegal knee as Baczynski got up. Adams gives Baczynski a few seconds to recover, but doesn't take a point. Baczynski and Benoist trade head kicks, and Baczynski bounds forward. Benoist trips as he escapes, and the two reset. Baczynski bounding in, and Benoist, leaps up on him with a standing arm triangle. Physics is against him, and he's forced to give up the attempt. Baczynski is in pursuit. Benoist kicks to keep Baczynski away. he tries to take the fight down and winds up on bottom. Baczynski stands over head and wings down punches. Baczynski locks up a cradle, and Benoist tries to escape. Baczynski stands overhead again and dodges upkicks before returning to guard. Baczynski lands a few punches to close out the frame. MMAjunkie.com scores the frame 10-9 for Baczynski by a hair.

Round 2 - Baczynski back in pursuit. Benoist tags him with a high kick and lands a couple of nice counters as Baczynski charges in and looks for the takedown. Another stoppage, and Benoist is grimacing against the cage. Replay shows Benoist land an illegal knee, but once again, no point is taken. The two get right back to it upon restart, and it's Baczynski on the offensive. Benoist ducks under and avoids the guillotine to settle into guard. Baczynski with a high guard, looking for a triangle. Benoist lands a couple of punches overhead and takes a few glancing upkicks before returning to guard. Benoist isn't having much luck scoring from the top. Baczynski's lanky frame is giving him problems. He stands overhead and can't return because of a flurry of kicks. He persists and manages to retake guard. Baczynski's making it as tough as possible, hinting at another triangle. Benoist maintains top position and the two scoot to the cage, where Baczynski recovers to his feet and reverses before escaping. He throws a flying knee and grabs a front headlock before pushing into guard. Benoist is looking for a kimura, kind of, and rubber guard. Baczynski stands overhead and fires down a few punches to end the frame. MMAjunkie.com scores the frame 10-9 for Baczynski.

Round 3 - Baczynski takes a few good punches on the advance and knees up the middle, but he grabs a clinch and muscles Benoist to the cage. Benoist turns and tries to escape, and nails a trip. Baczynski rolls right out of it and stands, but Benoist powers him down in a scramble. Benoist stuffs him against the cage for a few minutes, but Baczynski powers up. Both of their faces are bloody when they get to their feet. Benoist wants a takedown, and Baczynski tries a guillotine. He can't get it, and Benoist powers them to the mat, landing in guard. This time, he's a bit more successful on top, landing elbows an punches. Baczynski trying to stay active from the bottom. Benoist uses a can opener and works hammerfists Baczynski with an elbow from the bottom. Benoist goes body-body-head. The ref doesn't like it and stands them up. Less than a minute to go. Beoinst kicks and throws a flying knee. Neither land. Baczynski chases him, and Benoist tries a standing arm triangle again. They wheel around in a circle and Baczynski tosses him to the mat. He rains down punches before taking side mount as the fight ends. It's not enough to take the round, as MMAjunkie.com scores the final frame 10-9 for Benoist. But Baczynski is ahead 29-28 after three rounds on this website's scorecard. Seth Baczynski def. Lance Benoist via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28)
