Nice call Andrus!
Quote:
Round 1 - Herb Dean oversees the first fight of the night with a very impressive early crowd here in Chicago. They touch gloves and get rolling, and it's Mitchell who lands first with a 1-2. But Thoresen answers back with a jab, and they briefly clinch in the middle before trading. Mitchell lands best on a break, but it's all standup through the first 90 seconds. Mitchell whiffs, then they tie up, again just briefly. Mitchell lands a left shortly thereafter, then a right hand that is the best strike of the fight thus far. Then another after a short flurry, and it has Thoresen trying to tie him up. As Mitchell moves in, Thoresen lands a nifty kick to his right leg and takes him off his feet for a moment. The two start firing bombs at each other, and Thoresen lands his best shots of the fight and has the crowd excited. After trading at distance, again they get inside and start dropping heavy hands on each other as the crowd erupts. Hard to tell who got the best of who, but each fighter landed some good clips. After again breaking, it's Mitchell popping Thoresen's head back with a short uppercut. That's the punch he seems to want. They again wing at each other as the round winds down. It's a closer round late than it was early, but MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Mitchell.
Round 2 - Mitchell comes out fast and starts landing. He backs THoresen to the fence and, as the fight moves away, he again lands some big shots. Thoresen seems to survive for the short term, but he's soon on wobbly legs and hits the canvas. Mitchell wastes no time and gets down there with him and is going to look for a rear-naked choke to start. He has to work around from that as Thoresen defends, and eventually Thoresen gets back to guard and starts working from his back defensively. After some time there, with Mitchell working ground and pound. In some danger for a moment, Mitchell tries to go back to his feet. But it's Thoresen who gets on top and Mitchell falls back into guard. From there, he'll go for an arm, then work for a triangle. But Thoresen survives for the moment. Mitchell pushes hm back nicely, then lands a couple decent upkicks with a minute left. Mitchell again works for a submission, this time off his back, and in the ensuring scramble for Thoresen to get out of there, Mitchell gets back on top. He lands some nice shots as the round comes to an end, and that may give it to him. MMAjunkie.com will score a close one for Mitchell, 10-9, as he appeared to do a little more work when he was on the bottom.
Round 3 - The doctor spent some time looking at Thoresen between rounds, then having a conversation with Dean about something – perhaps things to watch for in terms of Thoresen's ability to continue in the fight. His face is showing some nicks, but not too bad. The action stops when Mitchell's corner yells, "He's got something hanging off his glove, Herb!" They stop to cut a loose piece of tape. Thoresen wants to touch gloves on the restart, but Mitchell wants nothing of it. They start bombing away again, and Mitchell lands the best three of the set before Thoresen ties him up briefly. They move to the cage, and the fight then hits the canvas with Thoresen on bottom and Mitchell looking for some kind of offense, but his corner yelling for him to get out of there. He goes back to his feet and lets Thoresen stand back up. Again, he goes after that uppercut. When they get in tight, Thoresen wants a Thai clinch. But then he kicks Mitchell off his feet. When the fight goes to the fanvas, it's Mitchell on his back looking for a triangle. He can't fully sink it, but he's landing hammer fists from his back that the crowd loves. Thoresen gets back up, then comes back down in side control. Mitchell ties him up, but there's no imminent danger. And very little is going to happen the last minute or so of the fight. Thoresen makes the last round interesting. MMAjunkie.com will score it for him, but not by much, 10-9. But the fight on our unofficial card goes 29-28 to Mitchell. David Mitchell def. Simeon Thoresen via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
