UFC 167: Brian Ebersole vs Rick Story

Ebersole's been off forever. However, he's nearing 70 pro fights and experience may help shake off any rust he experiences. Against a Horror that's been training at tri-star a bit he'll need a gas tank to be sure.

I think the winner does so by SD. I'll make a tiny play on the odds.

Ebersole gets a warning for grabbing the fence but gets pulled down. Still, he pops right back up. Ebersole trying to keep range and punch, but Story is still packed with power. Ebersole scores a nice leaping jab, but Story answers with another solid left. Jabs traded. Ebersole trying to rush in from distance. He does land a jab. He gets inside, but Story pushes him away yet again. Ebersole sticking the jab more and more. Story perhaps slowing on the volume just a bit, but he lands a big right to the body. Ebersole just can’t get inside. He finally does get a leg, but Story defends well as he backs to the cage. They break in the final seconds and flurry. Story seems to get the best shot, but he does have a cut on his cheek. Still, MMAjunkie gives it to Story, 10-9.

Round 3 – Touch of gloves to start the third. Story again on the attack. Ebersole kicks high and then the legs before looking to get inside. Instead, Story presses him down and punches away. He pushes past the guard and lands a left, and Ebersole turns to get up as quickly as possible. Story still holding the center and landing the bigger blows. Ebersole not backing down from the exchanges, and he’s trying to counter, but it’s not with the same authority. Story pushing forward, and he drills the body again. Ebersole deserves credit for absorbing punishing blows, but he’s going to need something special in the final two minutes. Story chops the legs and unleashes more power shots. Ebersole is hobbling and in trouble. Story wants the finish, but Ebersole does seem to have recovered a bit. He pushes inside and lands a nice short elbow. Story feels it but continues forward. Story’s left eye busted up and bleeding, but he chops the leg again, buckling his opponent’s legs. Another kick comes in and sees Ebersole just dive forward to the floor to take pressure off the leg. Fight ends there, and MMAjunkie gives the round to Story, 10-9, giving him the contest 30-27.

Result: Rick Story def. Brian Ebersole via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
