UFC 167: Erik Perez vs Edwin Figueroa

Round 1 – Figueroa paws a few jabs to open and lands the first real punch he throws. Perez looking to kick in the opening minute, but Figueroa happy to counter over the top. Perez kicks again, and it’s a direct shot to the cup. Figueroa falls to the floor, and we have a brief timeout. Figueroa moves forward on the restart. Perez still kicking the leg, and he moves in on a takedown. Figueroa defends well, but Perez eventually drags him to the canvas. Figueroa immediately on a knee and back to his feet, but Perez stays toed to the body. He lands a few shots inside and then backs away. Perez front kick to the body drives Figueroa to the floor, but he pops back up. Perez on offense, but Figueroa lands a stiff right counter. Perez answers with a clean right, and he kicks the leg again before driving in for a takedown. Perez controls from the top, striking the body and keeping Figueroa pinned to the floor. Figueroa eventually bucks up and gets to his feet, but Perez quickly drives him back down to the canvas and drives in a few short elbows. Round ends there, and MMAjunkie gives the first to Perez, 10-9.

Round 2 – Figueroa walks forward to open, but Perez again uses the front kick to keep him away. Perez left to the body followed by an overhand right that sends Figueroa to the floor. He pops back up, and they trade in the pocket. Figueroa still swinging with power. Perez drops down, picks Figueroa up high in the air and slams him to the floor. Quick transitions on the canvas as Perez looks for position. Figueroa on his knees, and Perez trying to secure position. Perez’s nose bleeding, but he’s in the better spot, and he works in a few punches and knees. Figueroa works hard to get to his feet. Perez gives him an elbow as he breaks away. Figueroa lands a nice right hand on the restart. Two minutes left. Perez kicks the leg again and ducks down for another takedown. Figueroa takes full guard, and Perez looks to posture and strike. Figueroa pulls him down, but he’s in full guard. Referee Kim Winslow calls for stand-up in the final seconds, and they finish there. MMAjunkie gives it to Perez, 10-9.

Round 3 – Figueroa again walking forward, pawing a jab. Perez kicks the leg. Figueroa winging a powerful lead hook, but he’s struggling to land. Big, powerful right comes, as well, but Perez stays away. Perez kicks low again, and it appears to hit the cup, but we carry on. Perez just misses a spinning hook kick that Figueroa slips under. Perez drops down for a takedown that scores, and he’s again in top position. Perez works to side control. He’s not scoring much, but Figueroa is trapped. Perez lands a knee, and Figueroa does scramble up, but he eats a stiff punches and is taken down again. Figueroa to a knee, and Perez backs away. Final minute, and they swing away. Perez wobbles Figueroa with a right. Round ends with traded kicks. MMAjunkie gives it to Perez, 10-9, giving him the fight 30-27.

Result: Erik Perez def. Edwin Figueroa via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
