Round 1 – Blake Grice and his sweet beard will oversee our fourth fight tonight. Smith kicks to the lead leg twice early. Then he shoots in for a nice driving takedown. Houston is back up pretty quickly, but Smith latches on to his neck. It’s not for too long, though, and Houston gets a big slam. He doesn’t get much chance to do anything there, though, and the two are back up. With 90 seconds left, Smith gets another takedown and this time pops over to mount. He then passes over to side control with an arm choke on, but Houston survives it. Smith gets to mount again late, but he won’t get a finish. Instead, he gets a 10-9 round on the MMAjunkie scorecard.

Round 2 – Both fighters go after leg kicks to start the second, but the action is slower this round. Both land lefts at the same time a minute in, then Houston staves off a takedown attempt and the two tie up. Smith is cut on his forehead – and it may have been from an accidental head clash moments earlier. Hard to tell. He goes after a takedown several times, and Houston keeps scrambling out. The crowd cheers the chase, though. Houston sprawls out of another shot to go to the ground as Smith continues to bleed with two minutes left. He looks tired. His blood is all down Houston’s back. Again, Smith wants it on the floor, and again Houston sprawls and scrambles away. Not much action to close the round. But MMAjunkie gives the second to Houston, 10-9.

Round 3 – Not a ton of action the first two minutes of the third, and Grice calls for a little more. The two throw sporadic kicks and punches, but no one’s making much of a statement here in the last in what could be an even fight after two rounds. With two minutes left, it’s still a little tough to call – Houston looks fresher. But it’s not like he’s dominating the last round. Smith wants a takedown with a minute left, but it’s more of the same from last round – Houston sprawls out of it. With 30 seconds left, the two sense some urgency and start winging punches. It’s a bit of a ho-hum final round. MMAjunkie will give it to Houston, 10-9, and the fight to him 29-28.

Result: Trevor Smith def. Brian Houston via split decision (29-28, 28-29,
