Round 1 – Barroso switches stances to open and drives a kick to the body. Stringer throws one, but Barroso catches it and sweeps him to the floor. Barroso kicks the legs a bit, but it’s a slow pace, and referee Mario Yamsaki stands them up. Stringer scores with a right hand on the restart, and Barroso falls back and into guard. Stringer tries to posture and strike. Barroso tying things up underneath, slowing it down. He turns to hi side and looks for options, but Stringer is happy to throw short punches and elbows from the top. Barroso returns to full guard. Three minutes into the round, and Stringer racking up points with his time on top. He lands a big right but decides to back away and return to the feet. Barroso starts by kicking to the body, and Stringer immediately pushes forward for a takedown. Barroso defends well against the fence, but Stringer pulls him off the cage and to the floor. Barroso quickly scrambles up and breaks the grip. They trade shots on the restart and move quickly back into the clinch. Less than one minute left. Stringer in the dominant spot, pushing in from the center. Round ends there, and MMAjunkie gives it to Stringer, 10-9.
Round 2 – Barroso with an immediate kick to the leg. A second goes to the thigh. A third goes to the head, but Stringer blocks it and pushes in for a takedown. Again, it’s clinch work, with Stringer holding the outside. Barroso eventually spins off and reverses the position. It’s a stalemate, and they break. Stringer walking forward on the restart, but he’s reversed as he looks for the takedown, and Barroso winds up in top position. Stringer holds guard.He postures up and eats an upkick. Stinger nearly gets the legs around the neck for a triangle choke, but Barroso slips out, and they move to the feet. Stringer tries to power through an outside trip, but it doesn’t comes. Two minutes left. Stringer is losing some zip. Barroso wants to strike, but Stringer is looking to wrestle. Barroso looks a little quicker now. His left eye is swelling from Stringer’s earlier work, but he’s getting some momentum. Uppercut scores for the wild Barroso. He moves in for a takedown but has to back away. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Barroso, 10-9.
Round 3 – Stringer kicks the leg to open. Fight handing in the balance. Stringer walking forward, but Barroso countering well. Left hand starting to land for Barroso. He’s being a little cautious right now, but his counters are scoring. Stringer holds the center, but he’s not really pressing the pace. Stringer uses a right hand to move into the clinch. Not much action there, and Yamasaki breaks them apart with a little less than three minutes remaining. Leg kicks traded. Stringer with a left hand and into a clinch again. Barroso seems to be fresher, but he’s not proving it. He finally gets off the cage. Stringer rushes forward with punches that mis. Barroso dives forward with both hands, and Stringer stumbles a bit. More leg kicks traded. Barroso misses a spinning elbow, and Barroso counters. Back into the clinch. Jose Aldo and Renan Barao yelling for a takedown from cageside. Barroso gets inside on a trip and brings it to the floor. Barroso finishes the round there, coring with short punches. MMAjunkie gives him the final round, 10-9, awarding him the fight 29-28.
