Round 1 – Bader opens with an outside leg kick, then about 45 seconds in, he gets a well-timed takedown and goes into side control. We’ll see what Saint Preux can do off his back here. Saint Preux shows his back, and Bader tries to take it. But Saint Preux pops back to his feet and lands a big kick, then a left hand. Then he backs Bader up with a left. A body kick is good for Saint Preux. Bader lands a good counter. Saint Preux goes up high with a kick, but Bader is just out of range of it. Bader drops down and lands a stiff left hand. With a minute left, Saint Preux lands a good left. Saint Preux puts his hands down and dances in the middle. But with 15 seconds left, Bader lands a perfect takedown and gets to side control. He gets a 10-9 first round on the MMAjunkie card.
Round 2 – Bader rushes in, but Saint Preux looks to capitalize. He can’t quite take full advantage, but he lands a good body kick afterward. Then he throws a quick left hand. Big body kick for Saint Preux slows Bader down. Saint Preux tries to push ahead with a reaching left as the crowd tries to get behind him. Saint Preux defends his first Bader takedown attempt midway through the round, so we’ll see if that is a sign of the tide changing. Another left for Saint Preux is good. They tangle with 75 seconds left, but Saint Preux is a little too quick and avoids another takedown. Bader seems to be stung and goes for a defensive takedown, but it’s Saint Preux who winds up on top with 40 seconds left. Bader gets out of there and back to his feet, but he eats a couple left hands for his troubles. Bader lands a takedown late, but MMAjunkie will give the second to Saint Preux, 10-9.
Round 3 – Saint Preux wants a big left again, but Bader is just out of range. Bader lands a solid right kick to the body, but Saint Preux comes after him and lands a few. Bader responds with a big punch of his own before they go back to the center. Bader shoots, and he’ll get a takedown 75 seconds into the round. Saint Preux is back up quickly, but Bader is draped on his back. He’ll pick him up for another one and gets to side control. Miragliotta tells Bader to stay busy, and he tries to. Saint Preux pops back up – but Bader gets right back in and lands his biggest slam of the fight. Saint Preux tries to set up a triangle, but Bader defends. Bader pounds to the body and tries to pass. Saint Preux looks to be tiring, but he’s trying to power back to his feet. He gets there, but he’ll have to defend Bader’s takedown. He can’t. Again, he’s back up, and again Bader drapes on him looking for the return to the canvas. It’s a 10-9 third for Bader, who takes a 29-28 lead in the five-round fight.
Round 4 – Saint Preux tries to land with the left to open the fourth. He may have some work to do, and he does – for a moment. He backs Bader up with punches, but Bader briefly drags him to the canvas. Saint Preux is immediately back up and takes the center of the octagon. He’ll look for a kick, and his hands are down. He wants the home-run ball, it appears. He just misses a left hand, then pushes Bader to the fence. A body-head combo is good for Saint Preux, and he sprawls out of a takedown attempt, but eats a knee. Midway through, Bader gets his impressive eighth takedown of the fight. Saint Preux gets back up, but Bader stays on him and brings him down again. That’s the story of the fight, without question. Bader looks for a kimura as he briefly takes the back, but Saint Preux pulls his wrist away. It’s another round for Bader, who should go to the final round up 39-37.
Round 5 – Saint Preux will need a finish, and his corner was adamant in making him understand that. Saint Preux lands a big left hand, but just the one punch. He’ll need to put more together than one and out. he pushes ahead again and lands again, but also just one punch. Saint Preux gets a takedown, though, and he’s in side control. We’ll see what he can do with it. He appears close to a guillotine, but Bader defends, gets back to his feet and lands a takedown and gets on top. That may do it for OSP. He may be too tired to do much more after Bader’s 10th takedown. Saint Preux gets up, and Bader is cut open from some earlier elbows. Saint Preux is on top. But with 90 seconds left, he’ll need to do a lot more than just hold on. He lands some elbows back on the feet, but Bader hangs on. With 30 seconds left, Saint Preux’s time is running out. They split apart with 12 seconds left, and Bader tries for more takedowns. That’ll do it. Bader gets Junkie’s final round 10-9 and gets the fight 49-46.
