UFN 57: Matt Wiman vs Isaac Vallie-Flagg

Round 1 – Wiman with a slight smile as he walks forward and opens with a low kick. Vallie-Flagg misses on a huge right hand.Wiman returns fire before they move into the clinch. Vallie-Flagg moves to the outside and grinds agains the cage. He wraps the body, but Wiman defends on one leg. Vallie-Flagg goes to the body before pulling away and resetting. Both men fire big punches before the move back into the clinch. Vallie-Flagg staying busy on the outside. Wiman struggling to have room to work. He’s trying to get off the cage. Vallie-Flagg abcks away and unleashes a barrage of punches. He’s really setting the pace right now. WIman finally gets off the fence, but Vallie-Flagg just puts him right back against it, and they continue to dirty box. Vallie-Flagg again wraps the body and looks for a takedown, but Wiman stays up against the cage. They finally move back to the center with a little more than a minute. Both men trading in close quarters. Wiman with a slick transition to move to Vallie-Flagg’s back. Not much time left in the round, but after teasing the choke, Wiman rolls out for the armbar. Slick move, but Vallie-Flagg stacks him up and keeps his limb safe. MMAjunkie likes the late work from Wiman, 10-9.

Round 2 – They start quickly again, but it’s Vallie-Flagg who moves inside and presses the action to the fence. Wiman turns off the cage and looks for the takedown. It’s not there, and so they trade shots from close range. Grinding stuff from both men. Vallie-Flagg relentless with his forward movement, but Wiman there to answer the efforts. All the action taking place in tight as they fight in a phone booth. Wiman gets off the fence, and they bang it out in the center of the cage. Wiman drives a knee to the body. He’s having some success with the Thai clinch. Vallie-Flagg wants a takedown, but Wiman easily avoids it and gets to the back once more. Vallie-Flagg turns to his knees, and Wiman continues to seek the choke. It’s not there, and Vallie-Flagg turns inside and gets back to his feet. Vallie-Flagg not giving up, and he’s pummeling the body, but Wiman answers with shots inside. Punches, knees, elbows, it’s all being thrown in close proximity. Round ends on the feet, and MMAjunkie gives it to Wiman, 10-9.

Round 3 – The fight is right back where it’s been all night, as they move to the clinch and start putting in the dirty work. Referee Mario Yamasaki breaks them apart, but they’re quickly back inside, trading shots right in front of each other. Vallie-Flagg is not going away, but Wiman is there to answer everything. Vallie-Flagg pushes forward, and Wiman controls his head, pushes him down and then once again gets himself to the back. Plenty of time left in the round, but Vallie-Flagg defends well. Wiman gets a body triangle to secure the position, but Vallie-Flagg defending the choke with ease. Wiman keeps searching for options and does look to apply the finish, but there’s nothing there right now with Vallie-Flagg’s defense. Wiman keeps looking for the choke, but it just won’t come. He finishes on the back, and MMAjunkie gives him the round, 10-9, awarding him the fight 30-27. Wiman a little slow to get off at the bell, and they go back and forth once they’re back on the feet. Yamasaki pushes them apart.

Result: Matt Wiman def. Isaac Vallie-Flagg via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)
