UFN 58: Renato Carneiro vs Tom Niinimaki

Round 1 – Carneiro out with a high kick that’s blocked. He’s in the center as Niinimaki moves laterally on the outside. Niinimaki wads in with a bog hook that misses, and he just avoids a sharp counter. Niinimaki tires again with an uppercut that misses. Very patient work from Carneiro right now. Niinimaki sneaks in a right hand that catches his attention. Carneiro scores with a jab, but he needs to turn it up. He does unleash a few crisp shots followed by a kick to the body. He scores with a nice counter right hand. Carneiro starting to dial things in a bit. He’s the better striker. He just needs to stay busy. He kicks the body again. Carneiro switches stances and kicks the leg. Spinning kick just misses. Carneiro catches a Niinimaki kick and nearly sweeps him to the floor. Carneiro very calm and relaxed. Carneiro catches a kick and dumps Niinimaki to the floor but doesn’t follow. Round ends, and MMAjunkie gives it to Carneiro, 10-9.

Round 2 – Carneiro patiently working again to start the round. His striking is crisp and accurate. Niinimaki showing a strong chin by not going anywhere in the exchanges, but he’s taking the worst of it. Carneiro pumping a crisp jab, and his kicks to the legs are starting to add up, as well. Niinimaki trying to come back with heavy leather. Carneiro catches him with a right hand stuns him. He tags him again with a left in an exchange, and Niinimaki is wobbled. Carneiro presses down on top of him and evntually gets to the back. Once there, he’s quick to get the choke in position. Tap comes just as fast. Great work from Carneiro.
