UFC 201: Rose Namajunas vs Karolina Kowalkiewicz

Round 1 – Kowalkiewicz rushes forward, but Namajunas slips away before she can strike. Leg kick for Namajunas. Kowalkiewicz with constant movement, looking to pick angles. Namajunas fires a big right that just misses. Namajunas drops her hands as Kowalkiewicz keeps moving on the outside. Kowalkiewicz comes in, and Namajunas tags her with a right. Namajunas looks incredibly relaxed. Low kick for Kowalkiewicz, and Namajunas scores a straight. Kowalkiewicz standing in the pocket and looking to trade, but Namajunas looks smooth and calm as she sticks and moves. Namajunas buckles a bit on a low kick. Kowalkiewicz starting to find some rhythm, but Namajunas still looking crisp with her counters. She lands a big left hand. Namajunas smooth with her angles and footwork right now.Knees traded inside. Namajunas with a few punches up top. Kowalkiewicz works into the clinch. Namajunas scores a trip and after a scramble winds up in top position. MMAjunkie gives it to Namajunas, 10-9.

Round 2 – Namajunas looking to work from range. Kowalkiewicz trying to press forward and make it a brawl. Namajunas with a nice right hand. Kowalkiewicz works into the clinch and fires a few knees. Namajunas initially tries to answer back but winds up pressing the action to the cage. Namajunas has underhooks and working from the outside. Kowalkiewicz drives in a knee. Kowalkiewicz with a left hand. Namajunas trying to change levels and drag the action to the floor. She’s got the body locked, and she nearly slips around to the back, but Kowalkiewicz turns inside. Namajunas backs away. Kowalkiewicz with a good shot, but Namajunas answers back with two big punches. Halfway through the round. Both women land right hands. Front kick sends Kowalkiewicz to the floor, but Namajunas can’t get on top. Back into the clinch. Knees traded as Namajunas works from the outside. Eventually, she backs away. Kowalkiewicz proving gritty. She grabs the clinch again and lands a knee. Namajunas with a left hand. Namajunas tries for a trip, but she has to back away. Kowalkiewicz doing very well when they work in the clinch. Knee inside for Kowalkiewicz, but Namajunas answers with a right hand. MMAjunkie gives the round to Kowalkiewicz, 10-9.

Round 3 – Fight likely hangs in the balance. Kowalkiewicz continues to press forward. Namajunas scores with a right hand. Knees inside from Kowalkiewicz. Every time she gets close, she punishes with those knees. Namajunas trying to keep her distance. Kowalkiewicz short on a spinning backfist. Namajunas looks to be tiring. Kowalkiewicz continues to move forward. She gets the clinch briefly. Namajunas kicks the legs when she resets. Namajunas with a right hand. Kowalkiewicz drops her hands to invite her opponent inside. Punches traded. Kowalkiewicz picks the leg and scores a trip, but Namajunas pops up. Kowalkiewicz stays in her face and puts the action on the floor. Two minutes remain. Namajunas working from her back. Kowalkiewicz postures up and strikes. Namajunas tries to grab the leg but can’t get it. Namajunas running out of time. Kowalkiewicz happy to rest on top and punish the body. Namajunas tries to isolate the arm, but Kowalkiewicz postures up. Namajunas firing upkicks. She gets her legs high but can’t get into position for a submission. She rolls to her knees and then turns again. She wants the left arm. It’s not there. She tries to wrok up. Namajunas swings until the end, but this is Kowalkiewicz’s fight. MMAjunkie gives her the final round, 10-9, awarding her the fight 29-28.
