Why? You've given no reasoning behind the post. Gonzaga won the Mundials in 2004, are you saying that counts for nothing? Give reasons if you are going to post like that.

Here's some credentials for Werdum from his website:

BJJ
1st World Jiu Jitsu Championship 2004
1st World Jiu Jitsu Cup 2004
1st World Jiu Jitsu Championship 2003
1st Panamerican JJ Championship 2002
1st Panamerican JJ Championship 2001
1st Panamerican JJ Championship 2000
1st World JJ Championship 2000 (weight and absolute)
1st European Championship 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003
1st US Open 2003
1st South of Brazil Championship 2000
1st South of Brazil Championship 1999
2nd Panamerican JJ Championship 2003 (absolute)
2nd World JJ Championship 2001(absolute)
3rd World JJ Cup 2004 (absolute)
3rd World JJ Championship 2003 (absolute)
3rd Panamerican JJ Championship 2003
3rd World JJ Championship 2002

Grappling
1st BIG Championship 2002
2nd ADCC weight 2003
3rd ADCC Absolute 2003

I don't know GG's ground skill credentials, but I doubt few people can top that record.

Also a note Werdum often competes in the Absolute a divison that has no weight limit and is much tougher than the divison Gonzaga won Mundials in.

Well I don't know too much about BJJ competitions and what not so feel free to correct me on this, but Werdum is a pretty big guy. Wouldn't competing in the open division mean that he would fight more small people? Since he is already pretty much in the biggest division?

Anyway, rummaging around the internet I found some Gonzaga credentials take it for what its worth though, as I am not sure how legit the site was.

-2004 Mundials Champion
-Heavyweight BJJ Black Belt GP 2004 Champion
-ADCC Trials Brazil Champion
-ADCC 2005 second place
-four-time BJJ national Champion
-five-time Sao Paulo State Champion.

Either way, my point is that neither fighter has a dominant edge on the ground Werdum perhaps has a slight advantage.

wow, they both are very decorated fighters. This may just result in a stalemate on the ground. I could be wrong though. Wasn't Werdum that submitted Gabe in their first fight?

No guys from 190-215 88kg-98kg like Jacare, Roger Gracie, and Xande Riberio (spelling) dominate in the Absolute.

While I would say Werdum doesn't blow him away on the ground Werdum is defiantly better.

But couldn't any advantage Werdum has on the ground be nullified by Gonzaga's kick-ass GNP (see the Cro cop fight)? So maybe Werdum beats him in a pure BJJ match... with a Gi, but what happens to that edge in MMA? I honestly don't know who has the better mma bjj. Anyone?

Werdum is real good at not taking damage off his back. I mean Nogueira did nothing to him at all when they were on the ground.

Werdum is real good off his back with triangles, armbars, and especially Kimoras So while I think Gonzaga's GnP is good if he attacks Werdum like he did Cro Cop he'll be in trouble since when you are on the ground with a guy like Werdum you can't just throw you have to be smart.

500K on Werdum. I feel that this fight will hit the ground, and when it does, then Werdum will go to work, either on top or in his guard. I also think that Werdum's going to open up more, which he really needs to do. I really liked the flurry he hit AA with in the first round, and with Chute Box, it's nothing but flurries.
