Those fights were more than 5 years ago (except for the Tito embarassment where he fought with a little Starnes in him) and they were not in the UFC. Hey 5 years ago Hughes beat up Trigg, where his his title shot?

Yes it is, if he were not such a boring fighter they would have lined him up with all the big name fighters by now. The UFC does not want to see it's fights decided by the judges, and for good reason with idiots like Cecil Peoples scoring fights. It's not as exciting and not as fair as a fight where the fighters determine the outcome. Machida knows this, and frankly I think the UFC should not give him a title fight until they feel like it. I get what you are saying about it not being his fault, well in as much as he does not "literally" have Joe Silva's job yes that's true, but in the sense that he dictates his style it is entirely his fault.

Man there is a lot of Machida hate on this forum.

The fact is, this is a big test for both of these guys. Neither of them have faced anyone like their opponent before.

I just can't understand why it's all Machida's fault if you consider the fight boring. He doesn't run:

He backs up while his opponents come forward. If they come close enough to exchange, Machida punishes them, and slips whatever they were trying to throw at him.

After one or two of those cycles, all his opponents in the UFC haven't been able to figure out how to close the distance AND win an exchange. So they get frustrated and leave a lot of space between themselves and Lyoto.

I THINK Lyoto is the next LHW champ, but Thiago is a unique opponent for him. He's promised to keep coming forward no matter what.

We'll see how that works out for him tonight.

Well I have to agree with you there. The way I phrased it left it open to be taken either way.

I meant it to be taken literally in that he does not make the match ups. But I agree 100% that he could influence it by being more "exciting".

Just don't forget, there are people like me who love to watch him as is. I really enjoy watching him completely baffle opponents with his movement while he punishes them every time they try to lay a finger on him. I see him as a very smart, very technical fighter, but I don't blame anyone who thinks he is boring.
