Round 1 - The evening's Spike TV broadcast opens with referee Josh Rosenthal in the cage. Lauzon lands an early left, though Escudero counters with a right. Lauzon in the center and kicks high, but Escudero blocks. Lauzon left answered by an Escudero 1-2. Front kick from Lauzon just short of Escudero's face. Escudero with an inside leg kick, though he looks to be feeling out the reach early. Escudero lands while moving into the clinch and looks for a takedown. Lauzon sprawls well, and Escudero elects to release and fire off a flurry of knees. They're blocked, but it looks good. Escudero clinches, but he backs away with nothing there. Halfway through, and Escudero letting his hands fly a bit. Lauzon still attacking, but Escudero answering well. Lauzn just misses a Superman punch. Escudero shuffle his feet, but the crowd doesn't like the inactivity in the late going. One minute left. Pace slower. Escudero evades a Lauzon attack.Escudero appears content to counter, but Lauzon slowing the attacks. First round ends a little slow, and crowd voices disapproval. Round 2 - Escudero takes the center early and fires off a few low kicks. Escudero dances away, and the quickly filling crowd is restless. Escudero responds with a flurry of punches that push Lauzon to the cage. Knees follow in bunches. Lauzon stands and absorbs. Escudero attacks the body as well. Escudero blasting away, though he realizes he won't get the finish and backs away. Lauzon presses forward for a takedown, but Escudero sprawls easily and backs up to the cage. Two minutes in. Lauzon fires a knee that misses as he backs away. Escudero appears the fresher fighter. Inside leg kick and Lauzon winces. Lauzon backs up to the cage. Escudero with another low kick that causes visible frustration. Lauzon with a bit of rope-a-dope. Escudero cautious in attack but won't let Lauzon out. More leaping knees from Escudero. More inside leg kicks from Escudero. traight left counter from Lauzon lands. Escudero continues to chop away at the legs. Lauzon getting the timing, but he looks tired. A right hand kind of pushes Lauzon to the floor, but Escudero doesn't want to follow. Escudero light on his feet on the restart. Escudero shoots in and fires a flurry at the bell. It's another 10-9 round for Escudero on the MMAjunkie.com card.
Round 3 - Jab from Lauzon earns another low kick from Escudero. Lauzon in the center, but Escudero dancing around. Inside leg kick from Escudero. Lauzon returns fire and catches Escudero on the cup. He wants only a few sends before restarting. Lauzon paws jabs, but Escudero answers with a more powerful blow. Lauzon kicks high to no avail. Lauzon lands a 1-2, but Escudero fires back with success. Escudero pushes Laizon to the cage and measure shim for a stiff punch before moving into the clinch. Nothing doing, and Escudero backs away. Escudero with knees from a Thai clinch. Punches inside as well. Escudero looks like he wants to finish, he just can't seem to drop Lauzon. Meanwhile, Lauzon appears a bit fatigues, though he's not folding. Overhand left from Lauzon, but Escudero counters with a right and that scores. Lauzon tries a switch kick, thigh nothing doing. One minute left. More shuffling from Escudero, and the crowd roars in disapproval. This is not a shuffle-friendly crowd. Escudero with a few punches that miss. Inside leg kick from Escudero. A second scores a direct blow on Lauzon's cup, and he winces and yells "Muck" (or something similar) as he falls. Rosenthal deducts a point with just seconds remaining in the contest. Both look angry on the restart and fire off Frye-Takayama-like shots until the bell. Lauzon screams as he throws, but both make it to the horn.
