Alves wins by UD:

Round 1 - Referee Yves Lavigne in the cage for the first pay-per-viw fight of the night. Alves with an early inside leg kick. Straight up top lands, though Howard fires back. Alves lands a low kicks and another straight. Howard trying to counter, but Alves looks very quick in his new slimmed-down frame. Trip tot he floor, and Alves is on top. He tries to secure a crucifix, btu Howard escapes to the feet. Good action early. Alves still using the leg kicks early. Howard patient as he looks to counter. Howard lands his own outside leg kick. Straight right for Alves, and a left snaps Howard's head back. Halfway in. Howard a little flat-footed. Alves pushes in with knees in a Thai clinch. Howard just misses a wild hook as Alves pulls away. Patient now. Alves moving forward. Howard misses a few wild hooks. Alves staying tight and just misses an uppercut. Into an over-under clinch. Nothing there, and they reset. Both fighters mixing kicks into the attacks. Alves a little busier and more accurate. Toe-to-toe flurry to close the opening round. MMAjunkie.com sees it for Alves, 10-9.

Round 2 - Howard with a little more spring in his step. Alves trying to take it out with low kicks. One is on the cup, but they restart immediately. Alves still showing quick hands as he evades Howard's bombs. Howard checks a leg kick and fires off a combination, but Alves is really covering and slipping well. Leg kick wobbles Howard. Alves chopping him down. Hook lands for Howard. Alves is just a little too quick. Alves lands a left roundhouse to the face. Alves drives in for a takedown halfway in. Howard defends against the cage, but Alves pulls him away and slams him to the floor. Half-mount for Alves. Howard keeps his legs tight and regains full guard in a scramble. Alves lands a few hammerfists as chants of "G-S-P" erupt. Howard with an open guard, but he seems a little too comfortable remaining on the floor. Alves riding out the round from the to. It ends with Alves on top, and MMAjunkie.com gives him the round, 10-9.

Round 3 - Howard wings a few hooks early, but Alves avoids and returns to the low kicks. Alves lands a straight over the top. Howard stalking, and he looks for a takedown, but Alves defends with ease, and the two stall against the cage. Howard releases and resets. Howard kicks low, but Alves does the same and delivers a straight, too. Moderate pace. Both guys still winging power shots in spots. A right hand drops Howard, but he pops right back up as Alves tries to swarm. Halfway in. Alves still using the leg kicks, and his boxing is still tight and compact. Howard giving chase, but Alves is picking his spots as he retreats. Hooks traded in the center. Both guys still swinging for the knockout. One minute left. Howard blocks a high kick and misses one of his own. Right hand over the top for Alves. Alves still pressing cautiously in the closing seconds. Howard trying to time a counter bomb. It won't come, but the fighters trade furiously at the bell. Good stuff, but MMAjunkie.com sees the round for Alves, 10-9, and gives him the fight, 30-27. Thiago Alves def. John Howard via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).
