Round 1 - Referee Jon Schorle in the cage for the evening's final dark fight. Brenneman circles on the outside as Alves holds the center. Both are bouncing franticly. Alves fires a big kick, but Brenneman absorbs it and shoots in. He passes quickly to the side. Alves rolls over, and Brenneman tires to reach over to the back. Alves takes a kimura grip on Brenneman's right arm, but it's more defensive than anything. Brenneman punches to the body, and Alves spins to his knees. Brenneman steps over to the back. Alves scrambles up to his feet, but Brenneman elevates and slams him to the floor. Troops love the big takedown, and chants of "Spaniard" break out. Alves works a full guard. Alves holding tight with overhooks. Brenneman working to elevate, and he finally steps over to half-mount on the left-hand side. Alves' head against the cage, but he does regain guard. Brenneman throwing short punches from the top. Some getting through, but nothing major. Brenneman steps to half-mount on the right side then immediately slips to mount. Round 2 - Chants of "Spaniard" to open round two. Alves takes the center and misses a low kick. Brenneman rushes in from distance. Whizzer on the trip, and both guys hit the mat belly first. They pop back up and remain tied up. Brenneman has underhooks, but Alves showing excellent balance on multiple trip attempts. There's the "U-S-A" chants. Neutral clinch, and Schorle breaks it. Alves has a high kick blocked and misses on a low kick. Brenneman drives in for a double, but Alves sniffs it out. In the clinch, Brenneman pushes forward and powers Alves to the floor on a trip. Side mount, and Alves again spins to his knees in defense. Brenneman takes half-mount as Alves is pushed back over, and Brenneman peppers him with a few punches to the face. Brenneman fires in a few shoulder shots from a tight half-mount. He frees his left leg and moves to side control. One minute remains. Brenneman lands a few knees to the body and then slips quickly to mount. Brenneman has the head and arm trapped, and he's trying to squeeze it tight, but he doesn't have the angle. He lets go and punches in the closing seconds, and MMAjunkie.com sees it again for Brenneman, 10-9.
Round 3 - Alves needs to get busy. He looks light on his feet as he again takes the center. Leg kick misses from Alves, but he does land a short Superman punch. He tries it again, and Brenneman tries to duck it for a takedown. Alves stands him up. Battle in the clinch, and Brenneman ducks down, grabs the waist and flings Alves to the floor. Brenneman in side control again, and he drives the knee into the ribs. Another transitions to mount, but Alves regains half-guard quickly. Mad scramble from both. Alves lands a few elbows to the top of the head and regains guard, but Brenneman does get a few punches in from the top. Familiar feel to this fight. Alves has an open guard and holding Brenneman tight, but he needs to change it up. One minute remains, and Brenneman just grinding away from the top. Schorle watching closely, but Brenneman staying busy enough with shoulder strikes and short punches. Brenneman steps over with his right leg into half-mount. He looks crucifix but takes mount. Alves spins and Brenneman takes the back in the closing seconds. Final bell sounds, and Alves stays on his knees, dejected. Brenneman outwrestled him start to finish.
