Brown came to fight but took the D:
Quote:
Round 1 - Howard lands a low kick. Both fighters jumpy as they bounce. Howard goes low with another kick, and Brown returns fire. They trade more low kicks before Howard clinches and puts Brown against the cage. Brown reverses, controls the wrists, and rests when Howard backs out. Brown lands a nice body punch, but Howard catches his kick and tries to drag the fight to the mat. Brown fends it off, and we start again. Howard lands a nice low kick and then covers up from a combo. They trade more low kicks. Brown lands a nice combo and partially connects on a head kick. Howard catches a kick and puts him against the cage. He elevates Brown for the takedown, but he's quickly back up. Howard works on a single leg, but Brown presses his head down to avoid the takedown. Howard breaks off, and Brown unloads a combo, catches a kick, and sends Howard to the mat. Brown looks for a choke, but Howard returns to his feet before slamming his opponent to the mat. Howard works from side control and looks to isolate an arm. Brown gets back to his feet, but Howard wraps the hips and wrestles for another takedown. Brown fends it off and then peppers Howard with punches as the round ends. It's close, but MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Brown.
Round 2 - Howard goes low with a kick before clinching and working for the takedown. Brown fends it off with his back against the cage and then breaks off. Brown shoots, but Howard easily sprawls, and they're back up. Howard works on a single leg to work for the takedown, but Brown balances well before working a guillotine. He mixes in a knee, and Howard fails to push forward to get the takedown, and we reset in the center. Brown wrestles Howard to the mat and works from half guard. The pace slows as Brown looks to improve position. He delivers some nice punches as the crowd starts "Here we go Steelers!" chants. Nice. Howard rolls to a side to avoid blows and then grabs a leg as Brown stands over him. Brown pulls free, but Howard takes top position with it. Brown tries for a triangle but doesn't have the position. He instead works on an arm with a leg triangle, but there's nothing there. It's another close one, but based on aggression and octagon control, MMAjunkie.com scores it 10-9 for Brown.
Round 3 - A touch of gloves kicks off the final round. Howard works a low kick and then partially connects on a high kick. Brown works jabs and a low kick. The fighters trade jabs. Brown shoots for a double-leg takedown and easily gets it. Howard puts his back against the cage and looks to stand. Brown tries to keep him down, but Howard slowly gets upright. He then looks for a guillotine on his kneeling opponent before taking his back. Brown gets to his feet and tries to peal him off. Howard tries to drag him to the mat, but Brown is back up, and we're in the same position before Brown gets his back against the cage. Howard grabs a leg and elevates, but Brown fends off the takedown. Howard tries to scamper away on the break, but Brown tags him with a punch. Brown works jabs, but Howard gets the takedown with a single leg. Brown quickly tries to work his way back up and gets to his knees and finally gets to his feet. Howard takes him back down and lands in half guard. There's little action, though, once there. Howard wants an arm and works for a kimura, but time expires. MMAjunkie.com scores the round 10-9 for Howard but the fight 29-28 for Brown. But this could go either way. Matt Brown def. John Howard via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
