Round 1 - Referee Rob Hinds oversees the light heavyweights. Vemola moves in with heavy punches, and Markes clinches up, turning his opponent into the cage. Over-under battle against the cage. Markes with a few short knees, but it's a stalemate. Vemola spins off, and Markes tries to land a big punch. They move back into the clinch again for a moment, but both start winging heavy leather. Markes finally ducks under the onslaught and drives Vemola to the floor. Two minutes in. Vemola turns to his side, and his back is against the cage. As he tries to move, Markes picks him up and dumps him back on the mat. Vemola works back to his feet, but Markes is all over him against the fence and brings him back to his butt. Vemola stands and tries a guillotine, but Markes elevates and slams him to the canvas again. Markes not overly active from the top, and the crowd is going restless. Still, Vemola is showing little ability to gain space. Vemola stands, and Markes continues to press in against the cage. Knee from Markes, and Vemola tries a slick takedown. Instead, Markes winds up on top. Vemola leaps to a standing guillotine in the final seconds, but Markes lasts until the bell. Interesting final transition, but MMAjunkie.com sees it for Markes, 10-9.
Round 2 - Vemola wings heavy leather again, but Markes avoids the blows and ducks under. this time, Vemola spins to the outside, but Markes pulls away. Vemola lands a nice right hand, but Markes charges in and gets a takedown. Vemola has shown moments, but Markes controlling the pace and positioning of the fights. Vemola on his fight for a moment, but Markes puts him down again. Still, no real offense as they work back up. Markes tries to lock in a standing guillotine. Halfway in, and this fight has become a wall-and-stall clinic. Hinds watching from a distance, but he's no intervening as the two battle for position inside. Markes finally hits a foot sweep that puts Vemola on his back. Markes works from side control with his opponent pinned to the cage. Even here, the pace is slow, and the crowd is going increasingly restless. Markes works in a few left hands and appeared to be setting up an armbar, but he instead settles backdown and drives a few knees to the body. Round ends there, and it's Markes, 10-9 on the MMAjunkie.com card, in rather unsatisfying fashion.
Round 3 - Vemola charges forward again, but Markes simply clinches up and moves the action to the cage. Vemola tries to sneak in a few punches and knees, but Markes just dumps him on the canvas. This fight has become extremely mundane. Vemola on his back and trying to roll. Vemola on top and allowing no space but not attacking. A single fan yells, "No one is watching anymore." Boos follow. Multiple cameramen are noticed to have set down their equipment. Markes does move to side control. Vemola still pinned to his back. Boos have become replaced with apathy.
