Round 1 - Referee Jacob Montalvo in charge of these two middleweights. Simpson in the center, and Schafer circles left. Simpson clips him with a hook and continues to blast away. Schafer hits the deck, but Simpson declines to follow. Schafer rises, and his left cheek is reddened. Simpson works the body and up top, and his hands look quick early. Schafer's eye worsening, and he's having trouble figuring out how to slow Simpson, who pushes in against the cage. Schafer does spin off, but a right hand seems him stagger back. Simpson looks extremely comfortable as he fires from all angles and dances on his feet. Simpson pops the body again. Schafer clinches, but he eats a knee inside. Simpson just dancing around,, landing nearly at will. Schafer's not afraid to move forward, but he hasn't done much thus far. Four-punch combination, and Simpson suddenly looks like a striker out there. Schafer lands a left, but his face is a mess. Simpson light on his feet and finishes with another flurry. Round 2 - Schafer takes the center, and he blocks a huge overhand right. Simpson still firing heavy leather. Schafer covering up well, but the left cheek is an absolute mess. Simpson firing at will, and his shots are landing heavy. Still, Schafer stands in the pocket. Schafer showing heart, but Simpson is on fire tonight, and he continues to land heavy leather with hooks and straights. Simpson works the body, as well. Schafer trying to counter, moving forward. He does land a left. Pace slowing a bit halfway in. Simpson still looks fresh enough, but Schafer has found a few short counters that caught his attention. Simpson dances away from Schafer. Schafer staggers back after a Simpson flurry. Tough to tell if he's baiting, but Simpson is cautious. More deliberate pace from Simpson, and it's allowing Schafer a little time to be comfortable. Doesn't seem to have the answer just yet, but he's trying. Right hand from Simpson changes that, and Schafer hits the deck. Big shot, but Simpson won't finish. Instead, he cruises to another 10-9 round on the MMAjunkie.com card.
Round 3 - Schafer takes the center, and he's going to need a finish. Instead, it's Simpson who lands again with a flurry. Schafer continues to press forward, and he deserves credit for that. But Simpson is doing a great job of backing away avoiding the movements of Schafer and blasting him with hooks. Simpson lands a big left hand to the jaw. Schafer's lip now busted up, as well. Carbon copy of the opening two rounds. Simpson is just too quick with his strikes, and it's some of the best striking he's ever demonstrated. Right uppercut lands for Simpson. Another left hook scores. Simpson is in a groove. It's absolute target practice. One minute left. Simpson shuffling his feet, moving his head. Schafer walks forward until the end, but it's not going to happen. MMAjunkie.com gives the final round to Simpson, 10-9, giving him the fight 30-27.
