Small bet on Aaron Rosa, he was a right fat bastard when he fought Joey Beltran and looks 100% better on this picture, fingers crossed he'll do ok at this weight.

I predict Diego Sanchez/Cathal Pendred by Split Decision.

Round 1 - Referee "Big" John McCarthy in the cage for the evening's first fight, a light heavyweight affair. Both fighters walk forward cautiously. Lucas charges with punches that miss. They tie up in the clinch, but Rosa spins to the outside as they push to the cage. Lucas switches off and gets a brief takedown, but Rosa scrambles away and resets. Quick toe-to-toe exchange. Stalemate again in a clinch, and they reset in the center. Moderate pace by both fighters two minutes into the fight. Lucas pushes in again on the clinch, and knees are exchanged inside. Brief pause while Lucas has his mouth piece re-inserted. Rosa works a nice combination, including a few kicks, but Lucas ties it up again. Lucas looking for a single that won't come. One minute left. Rosa lands a few punches and knees inside as he defends the takedown. McCarthy lets the tow work in the clinch. They break, and Rosa again lands a nice flurry before the bell. Lucas answers. Not a lot to score in that frame, and MMAjunkie.com sees it even, 10-10. Lucas may have done enough with the pressure.

Round 2 - Lucas defends a kick in the early going and nails a double leg. Rosa crawls right back up to his feet, but Lucas pushes in against the cage. Rosa works a few inside punches, but nothing of consequence landing. They break, but Lucas quickly clinches up again. Lucas is controlling the positioning of this fight, but he's having a hard time scoring a takedown. Building still relatively empty right now, but there are smatterings of boos throughout. Halfway into the round. Lucas continues to push in against the cage. Rosa briefly attacks the right arm, but Lucas pulls away. On the restart, Rosa lands a crisp uppercut. Neither fighter is really impressing this far. They clinch in the center, and Rosa lands a knee to the guy before pulling away. Quick flurry from both and then another timeout. Lucas lost his mouthpiece again, and McCarthy takes a point for not keeping it in. Less than a minute on the restart, and Lucas gets a quick takedown. THis time he settles into half-mount. Rosa does crawl up before the bell. Ugly fight to start things out. Rosa had one nice flurry, but MMAjunkie.com sees it 10-9 for Lucas. Add in the deduction, and it's a 9-9 round.

Round 3 - Could be anybody's fight, as judges are splitting hairs to find anything to score. They step it up to open and a few crisp punches land for both in the center of the cage. Lucas then looks again for a takedown, but Rosa defends it against the cage. Back to a very familiar position. Lucas' left cheek swollen a bit from Rosa's punches, but this is still a slow fight. Rosa picks up the pace a bit, kneeing away in the clinch. Lucas looks again for a takedown, but there's just no explosion, no pop. Rosa pummels as he lands in the clinch. They break, and Rosa lands a low kick. Two minutes left. Rosa again does work in the clinch with a few knees to the gut. Lucas just pushes him against the cage. Rosa switches off and knees to the thigh. Lucas looks like he's just barely hanging on. Rosa punches inside. Less than a minute, and McCarthy calls for time to replace the mouthpiece again. He restarts it back in the clinch, and Rosa goes to work with punches and knees inside. There's not much behind them, but they're scoring blows. Lucas pushes off the cage and breaks away. He gets a takedown in the closing seconds, but Rosa pulls away at the bell. MMAjunkie.com sees the final round for Rosa, 10-9, giving him the fight 29-28. Close first rounds though. Aaron Rosa def. Matt Lucas via majority decision (28-28, 30-26, 30-26).
