Back in 2010 these two put on a hell of a fight and a fitting end to the awesomeness that was WEC.
At the time WEC LWs were seen as being not quite on the same level as the LWs in the UFC, but since the merger has happened that theory has been proven very wrong. WEC's LWs have proven to belong in the UFC and they all seem very hungry and talented.
With Bendo winning the title last night and Pettis scoring an impressive KO win over Joe Lauzon the stage could be set for the rematch.
Pettis came into the UFC as the number one contender, but lost that status because of both Gray Maynard who got his rematch with Edgar, and Clay Guida who beat Pettis.
With Pettis winning in such impressive fashion last night, him already having been "robbed" of his titleshot and the fact that he is one of the few people who actually have a win over the current champ the rematch makes sense.
The promise of another amazing 5-round war between the two is just the icing on the cake.
We still to take the winner of Diaz vs. Miller into account, as he could possibly be next in line as well. But the way I see it that fight is still in the future and unless one of the two wins in very impressive fashion, Bendo vs. Pettis II both makes more sense, but also seems far more interesting.
I say book Bendo vs. Pettis II for the big FOX show in August, that way the UFC makes up for the mistake of keeping Bendo off the first FOX card and gets the new breed of LW fighters some much needed exposure on national television with what is almost guaranteed to be an awesome fight
Go for it Dana!
