GUIDA vs MAYNARD, FRANKLIN vs LE announced

The long rumored GUIDA vs MAYNARD is now confirmed,

"A pair of intriguing matchups are official for the UFC's summer schedule as Clay Guida meets Gray Maynard at UFC on FX 4 and Rich Franklin faces Cung Le in a middleweight bout at UFC 148.

UFC officials today announced that verbal agreements are in place for the fights, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

Guida vs. Maynard is the UFC on FX 4 main event and will be contested as a five-round lightweight affair.

UFC officials in February announced that UFC on FX 4 takes place June 22 in Atlantic City, but a venue has yet to be named. Meanwhile, UFC 148 takes place July 7 at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Guida (29-12 MMA, 9-6 UFC) fights for the first time since losing a No. 1 contender bout with Benson Henderson at this past November's UFC on FOX 1 event. The loss snapped a four-fight win streak for the high-energy fan-favorite, but he's still considered a top contender, as well as one of the most popular athletes in the promotion."

Good matchups.

I think Maynard will win a decision, better technical boxer and wrestler. Guida will make it exciting though, hopefully.

Franklin should beat Cung as well. Nice to see him back at 185.

I'm going with Mayanrd and Le. Don't really care about the Le-Franklin fight because neither is relevant anymore. It should be entertaining though.

Interesting that Franklin is having another fight at 185. His purpose of fighting these days is solely for a pay cheque and entertainment bc he'll never get another title shot.

Kind of sad that Griffin and Bonnar are going the same way.

Not sure why Bonnar doesn't fight more often though. I always thought his jitz was great and he's tough as nails. Sadly, he hasn't put it all together, but he's on a good little run now.

I think Maynard/Guida will go to a split decision. For me Maynard is the better wrestler and technically the better striker but Guida is tough as hell and has endless cardio. I expect Maynard will control the first half of the fight with Guida building steam and taking over in the second half. It will al come down to a razor close 3rd round. Unless Maynard falls in love with his power early in which case Guida will run through him. Guida has chin and will go the distance.

Going to be a five round fight which possibly favors Guida, although has he ever been five rounds? Maynard sure has.

I think the UFC has done TERRIBLE matchups for UFC on FOX/FX. They always put two even wrestlers against eachother... not sure what the hell they're thinking.

What I meant was the 3rd will be mid fight, were I expect the momentum to start to swing from Maynard to Guida. I think Maynard takes rounds 1 and 2, Guida will take 4 and 5. The 3rd will be a big factor.

I realize Guida has never been 5 rounds but lets be honest the guy has bounced around the cage with more energy than we see from most fighters AFTER 3 round grueling wars. Really don't see any reason to think there is any way an extra couple rounds could ever hurt Guida.

Guida has been five rounds more times than Gray. He did it twice in SF against Thomson and Gilbert.

I'm excited for Guida/Maynard. They're both so tough to beat. I think Guida is gonna find a way to overwhelm Gray with his pace. I don't remember Gray finishing anyone by submission and Guida doesn't stop unless he's submitted, and he can take a good punch and keep coming.

Le v Franklin is a fun matchup, would be nice to see Le get a win cos I'd like to see more of him.
