UFC 148 Lands Michael Bisping vs. Tim Boetsch
Quote:
UFC matchmakers are zeroing in on the promotion’s summer events, as witnessed by recent fight announcements.
Less than 24 hours after announcing the addition of Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le at UFC 148, UFC officials on Monday confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that Michael Bisping would face Tim Boetsch on the July 7 event in Las Vegas, as well.
Bisping (22-4) is coming off of a strong showing, albeit in a loss, against Chael Sonnen at UFC on Fox 2 in January. That fight ended a four-fight winning streak for Bisping, but more importantly, it put his title shot aspirations on hold.
Sonnen is expected to face UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in June of this year, while Bisping will square off with Boetsch, trying to work his way back to the front of the queue.
Following a loss to Phil Davis at light heavyweight, Boetsch (15-4) made the move to middleweight and has been streaking towards a title shot ever since.
He is currently 3-0 at 185 pounds, most recently staging an amazing come from behind victory over Yushin Okami at UFC 144 in Japan. Badly beaten in the first two rounds of the fight, Boetsch launched a blistering flurry of strikes in the opening moments of the third round for a TKO stoppage of Okami. He’ll hope to do the same to Bisping, albeit hoping to avoid the punishing first two rounds.
TUF: Live coaches Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber headline UFC 148 with Cruz’s UFC bantamweight championship on the line. UFC 148 takes place on July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Bisping should win a decision but Boetsch has a definite punchers chance.

I think everyone knows I am not a Bisping fan, but Bisping (other than a lapse in judgement) should not have any real problems beating Boetsch.
If Boetsch beats Bisping, especially by KO, this could lead him to a title shot. It's the sort of high profile fight you need to win in the MW division since they are trying to keep AS from rematches.

I expect Bisping to win but I look forward to this fight. Boetsch is a tough guy and he has a chance against anyone I don't even particular hate Bisping like most people do but I'd love to see Boetsch get another upset knock out.

hmmmm This should be a UD for Bisping - Okami out boxed Boetsch pretty comfortably in the 1st round of their fight and i think Bisping has better boxing. That said Boetsch could easily do the exact same thing as he did to Okami! Should be a fun watch either way.

Should be a UD for our British boy Bisping but I can see it being a war.

Bisping is inarguably the superior fighter, but after seeing what happened to Okami, I'll not count Boetsch out. All it takes is one. Though again, Bisping is easily the superior fighter.
Some might call it a step down from Sonnen, but Boetsch just took out a high profile MW in Okami, so the fight makes sense.

Bisping UD.
But if Boetsch could find Okami's chin then he may find Bisping's at some point in the fight. But Bisping should be better everywhere other than brute strength.
Decent fight for what is out there in the MW division. I have liked Boetsch at 185lbs. Glad he is getting some wins.

Bisping is very lucky this is three rounds and not five, on the other hand Boetsch is the type of guy who could knock Bisping out in the clinch. Something Miller and Sonnen tried to do but couldn't. This is a damn good fight, wouldn't be shocked to see an upset.
