Renan Barao vs. Jeff Houghland at UFC 138

A bantamweight matchup between Renan Barao (28-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) and Jeff Hougland (10-4 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has been added to UFC 148.

Don't understand this one at all... The only thing i can think of is that their keeping Barao busy untill Cruz-Faber have fought.

Events Attended: UFC 120, CWFC 45, CWFC 52

Barao is easily the next contender. As you said, I imagine this is purely to keep him busy and give him another win (though, as we know, there are no guarantees in MMA).

Clearly just a fight to give Barao another win and possibly get an exciting finish so there's more hype for when he fights the winner of Cruz-Faber.

Renan Barao already fought Brad Pickett at UFC 138

Seriously, this is a step down for Barao and probably just to keep him busy until Cruz is done with Faber.

Clearly as many of you have already mentioned, this fight is to keep him busy. Respect to him for keeping active even though it's a risk.

With great risk comes great reward. Dana always rewards guys and respects them for staying busy. He'll get his shot and imo become the new BW champ.

They are probably keeping Barao busy until the TUF fight happens.
