Why do you think it's retarded?

So is punching a fighter while going for a glove touch. Legal or not, it's still dirty. Knee stomps could easily end a fight and seriously injure someone. I just hope when they do end a fight, Dana will go on one of his tirades and get them banned.
The 12 to 6 is retarded because just by changing the angle less than inch it becomes a legal strike look at travis lutter vs anderson silva and tell me how that strike is any different in reality from what jones vs hammill .

elbows to the back of the head . Watch more than a couple fights .
And the stomps using touching gloves is a poor comparison because guess what, the fighters are told to defend yourself at times . Touching gloves isnt mandatory and if you go to punch while your opponent touches gloves it is a legal shot.

..No. Jones is not a dirty fighter. His spinning elbow is a legal move that is very effective. He does the same sidekick to the knee or thigh as Machida does. When you have the longest reach in MMA, it's easy for him to over-extend on smaller fighters. It's not on purpose. The only time he choked was when he dropped those 12/6 elbows directly on Hamill's face. I'm sure he didn't intentionally do it. It was a heat of the moment thing which cost him a DQ. His skillset is mad and with that incredible reach he can really posture up in the guard and land wicked shots and elbows from a mile out. Look at that one nasty, slicing elbow he hit Machida with. That one elbow turned the tide in that fight...

If Bones' didn't throw that illegal elbow then we wouldn't know that Stephan Bonnar is the toughest sonofabitch in mma.

He's not "dirty" in any sense, a spinning back elbow is not illegal in any way. The fact that it landed on the back of the head is a foul, but one what would have been inconsequential because Bonnar recovered enough to continue even without a pause from the ref.

HOWEVER, the 12-6s to Hamill (stupid rule or not) were illegal, as were the chin-butts to Bader's core. So if you want to use those as references yes, you can argue for a certain level of "dirtiness."

I don't think Jones is dirty, he's just undisciplined. Its a minute, but important difference.

According to BJM:

“What it was, was when the Unified Rules were put together they took all the organizations. You had the UFC, Pride. You had the IFC. You had Hook N Shoot at the time. There were various organizations that all met together in New Jersey. Larry Hazzard is the one that put it together so he could clarify his rules. Marc Ratner was on a phone line for it, and they ended up having everyone sit there and try to come together with what they could be happy with. One of the things that happed was there was an IFC show that happened before that meeting occurred. There were a couple of fights, and because New Jersey wasn’t comfortable with Mixed Martial Arts at the time; there were a couple of fights that went on to change things as far as what they were going to permit and not permit. You have all these different organizations, and you have all these people with what they want to be able to do, so it’s tough to get people to agree on things. Finally, one of the things that was brought up is in one of the fights a fighter took another guy’s back and tried to sink in a choke. He couldn’t sink in the choke, so he started taking his hand and bringing it up and elbowing to the back of the guy’s head and neck. The doctor from New Jersey had a conniption about it. He said I will never ever pass something that allows that type of strike. That could be life threatening, and he started going into his thing, and so the one elbow they took out was that elbow, that type of position. The way that they wrote it up, you could interpret it a ton of ways, but the true position they were talking about was that hand coming up to twelve o’clock to six o’clock.”
The initial source of that is a broken link. But this is a link that copied it.

Considering it was put in to take out dangerous strikes to the back of the head and spine, and attacking the back of the head and spine was illegal due to another rule... I'm not sure I'd use the word retarded, but I'd at least say pointless.

And although Jones did break the 12-6 elbow rule, Hamil was unable to continue because of a shoulder injury caused by a legal throw, not the foul. The elbows certainly did damage and by the letter of the law the disqualification was correct. But without the initial shoulder injury, Jones would have only been penalized a point instead of being disqualified. So yes, he committed a foul and was disqualified, but he wasn't disqualified because his foul was insanely heinous.

Some people think that they can convey either a philosophy on life or a complex political statement using a signature on the internet. I'm not one of them.

Ill add to the DQ situation also, that fight should have been stopped WAY earlier. that was a beat down. It should not have ever got that far.

I think whenever a person reaches some form of success in their life, there will always be those who are envious. They will constantly try to find faults with those they are envious of. These people are referred to as haters.

Be a fight fan, not a fanboy.

Not a Jones fan but not near the hater I once was. I thought the 12-6 elbows he landed on Hamill wasn't that big of a deal because he honestly didn't know they were illegal.

The only dirty thing I've seen him do is flip Rampage after the bell.
