Dan Henderson........ Waiting

I woke up today to read the Dan Henderson Believed he would be bumped ahead of Rashad Evans in the title line. He stated he thought because Rashad had just come of a win against davis then he would take some time off and fight the winner of him and Jones. Now how does he believe this when he has been offered 2 other fights, first he got offered Gustafsson and turned it down, then got offered Shogun Rematch and turned it down, so how did he think Dana was gonna bump him ahead of Rashad. I really hate seeing fighters sit on the sidelines waiting for the champ, Hendo could of took another fight to keep him self busy and yeah its risky but this is mma if you wanna be the champ you have to be the best. I don't even think Dan Henderson deserves a title shot, he beat shogun in a match-up where both looked terrible, both gassed out and it wasnt really a great performance yet everyones raving how 41 is the new 25 hahaha. I like Dan i was a massive fan of his, but he has no chance what so ever at Jon Jones, Jones will hurt Dan.... badley. Dan said a couple of days ago that Jon Jones has flaws in his striking game that he can take advantage off.... yeah good luck.

does anyone agree that he shouldn't be turning fights down and sitting out for nearly a year after 1 fight back in the ufc??

Dan has a chance at whoever they put in front of him. At his age and what he's accomplished in this sport, he can wait as long as he wants IMO.

I'd love to see him fight Jones. They're both great wrestlers and Dan has the better striking skills while Jones has monster reach. It'd be a good fight.

Beating Fedor went to his head.

I couldn't care less if he sits out forever. Ive never been a fan. His fighting style bores me. He hasnt changed at all. If theres one type of punch I hate more then all others, its the head down, looping overhand rubbish. Favoured by so many wrestlers. All of them I always root against. None of them ever seem willing to evolve past it. Boring.

Plus, his cheap shot against a stiff Bisping was a disgrace.

Plus, he talks like a zombie.

Plus, the teeth thing.

I tend to agree with this, but after Dan came in and threw down with Shogun like that, and because he was the victor, I thought man he's got to a get a title shot off that.

But realistically, I feel the same as HOGH. Just fight, the Champ has a challenger and there are other guys waiting for fights - and they are names worth having on your record.

Machida for example, ok he does not have a great recent record and he is a bad stylistic fight for Hendo. Way I see it, if you're happy to walk in and fight Shogun coming off a recent, nasty KO win, you should be happy to fight Lyoto.

I don't value title fights as much as just regular, good matches. I think we're missing out on so much with the irregularity that guys like Machida, Hendo and Rua choose to work sometimes. And thats just LHW. So what if the opponent is not top 5, regular fights keeps these guys in shape, bulks their records, and will produce new contenders.

As always though, do we know the actual facts? Maybe Hendo is hurt and thinks his return would time well with the next Championship fight, he was EXHAUSTED and pretty beat up after the Rua fight, takes a while to freshen up at 41.

I agree with the overall opinions so far. However, I guess Dan is thinking that he only has so many fights left, so I can understand that. But I dont think that is his thought process though. I do think that he feels he is too good for some fights and only wants huge fights. Which is fine but not if your looking to be a champion.

  1. How can people not like Dan Henderson. The guy brings it every fight, he is exciting to watch, he never talks trash, he has not had an easy fight is god knows how many years.
  2. People wait for title fights all the time. Condit is trying to sit out until GSP comes back.

I think if Dan Henderson wants to wait for the winner of Bones and Evans then he should be able to. Especially after that war he had with Shogun. To me he earned the right to sit out.

There is a difference between sitting out because of a war and just hoping for a title shot. He doesn't even know he is next. Heck he thought he was getting one before Rashad. He is turning down fights just waiting. His attitude is way too elitist. He doesn't want to fight now because he wants a title shot. He will go down to MW but only for a title shot.

Just go fight Dan...

Well, Im sure the UFC has made it obviouse for Dan that he probobly gets the winner of Jones/Evans. Who would be ahead of him? the only fighter that you may possibly argue is Gustafson, but Hendo has beaten better fighters and to me deserves it over him.

The guy brings it every fight? Apart from the fights he keeps turning down you mean?
So what fight has he turned down? Has he been offered a fight? If he is offered a fight then who would the UFC have him fight?

I remember the UFC holding Cain velazquez out for the winner of Lesnar/Carwin when JDS was available to fight. Did you have a problem with that?

We are so quick to say what fighters should do with their careers. Dan is in his forties and who knows how many fights he has left. If he wants to wait for a title shot at this point in his career then more power to him.

I am growing real tired of Dan who sense of entitlement knows no rival.

Rashad sat out. Condit is sitting out. More people have sat out.

Hendo is 41 years old. He can do what he wants. He should have had an immediate shot coming into the UFC.

What fight makes sense? Bader is the only fee guy that makes any sort of sense. Machida is coming off a brutal loss. He is like 1-3 in his last few. Phil Davis? What makes sense?

I can see why he wouldn't do a Shogun rematch. Why should he come to teh UFC off of beating Fedor and being the SF champ and have to beat a guy twice to get a title shot?

I'd like to see him fight. But he figures if Rashad can do it, so can he. He has at least earned it more than Rashad.

Hendo is waiting, Machida is waiting... just match then.
Sick and tired of this Machida being put on hold for so long,
he said he wanted to fight 3/4 times this year, yet ...

I must be missing something, why would you not like Hendo?

He's honest, seems pretty humble, has paid his dues, and has that shit-eating-toothless grin that you can't help but smile at.

Is he a jerk in real life?

Is he Champion material? Probably not. But when a guy like that has done so much and people can relate to him so well, I say give him what he wants while he is still willing.

If Randy wants his new wife to fight his ex-wife at the next event, I say let it be!

You gotta take care of family.

Hendo is the reigning SF Lhw champion, beat Fedor and Shogun back to back, he deserves a shot and has earned the right to wait for it. The UFC also can make a killing from merging the belts. Hell, Hendo was the last Pride LHW/MW champs, and the last SF LHW champion. Hes the man and deserves his dues. Get off his back.

Although I did not neg you, you fail to respect what Dan and Shogun actually did that night. They fucked each other up. For five rounds. Of course they were tired in the last two rounds, go rewatch the first three rounds. Dan is 41. Shogun has major knee surgery every year or two.

When two already well-established superstars who both could both retire right now and never have to work again put on a fight like that...how can you not appreciate it? That shit will get you red, and fast around these parts.

Edgar vs Maynard 2-3? Good fights? I only watched them to see Edgar get KOd. I was disappointed in both fights. All I saw was Maynard headhunt and Edgar do his tap hits which did no damage just to catch Maynard on a slip for the TKO (so lucky).

Hendo is the man. All of his fights since koing Bisping, was great imo. He just got dry humped by Shields, kinda sucks. I was surprised he won the Shogun fight. That fight was the best fight of the year. Gruesome F****** fight.

The man can sit on the sidelines and wait for the winner of Jones/Evans. He's the next contender and I don't see anyone in front of him. I love Machida so I don't want to see him rebound on Hendo, not after getting dropped like a sac of potatoes from Jones.

It's annoying for us fans when fighters decide to wait, but I guess I understand it. The only thing that makes think they should take a fight is, if they win they still get the shot, and if they lose well they probably were not going to win the title anyway.
