Evans on Mo Lawal

Quote:
Apr 1, 2012 - Former UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans was sad to see Mo Lawalís situation go from bad to worse this past week, he told MMA Fighting. The two are colleagues in the fight game, but theyíre also friends, which made it hard to watch as Lawal was released from his Strikeforce contract shortly after being fined and suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday.

"Itís unfortunate, man. Moís probably one of the best guys Iíve ever met in the sport, and even outside of the sport," said Evans. "Heís so much different than the character, or what he comes across as. People get the wrong take on Mo."

The way Evans sees it, many people fail to see the distinction between the real Lawal and the "King Mo" persona heís adopted for the purposes of a little pre-fight entertainment. What they donít realize is that, whether on Twitter or in person, theyíre getting a much more genuine response than they get from many other fighters.

Sometimes, however, thatís a personality trait that comes with certain consequences.

"Moís so real," Evans said. "When someone says something to him, itís hard for him to divorce the fact that theyíre saying it to his character and not who he really is as a person. When you say something to him, he gets offended deeply because heís such a real dude. I feel bad for him. Heís a champion at heart, and Iím sure heíll find a way to make it back to [Zuffa] or find a way to make it in another organization as a top guy."

The question for Lawal is what heíll decide to do next. Will he sign with another organization? Will he try to wait out Zuffaís wrath and then sign a new contract when tempers have cooled?

If Evans had to lay odds on it, he said, heíd bet that Lawal will eventually end up back in one of the two Zuffa-owned organizations. In the meantime, itís just a matter of making it through the rough times ahead. Thatís something Evans knows a little something about, he said.

"I think that everything happens for a reason. Iíve been in a situation where I had to ride out a dark cloud a little bit in my career. I think Moís just going to have to ride the dark cloud in his career. I went about a 14-month period of not having a fight and just riding out some of the waves in my life, and that happens. Fighting is not just about fighting -- itís about life. Sometimes you have those ups and downs in life, just like in your career. But as long as you keep your mind right and on what you really want, and you stay hungry, then youíll prevail and make it through the storm."

I think Diaz is way more vilified, and I have no problem with that.

You think nick diaz is more "vilified" than rashad evans? hahaha you are a funny guy.You only have to look at the reaction both fighters get to in fight taunting to see who is hated and who has a large cult following.

Rashad decides to take a sabbatical to get a divorce and wait for his title shot & fan reaction to this is "he is a cheery picking b!tch afraid to lose his spot".Nick diaz behaviour every time the gsp fight seems like a possibility clearly indicates he doesnt want it.Missing pressers, constantly reiterating to fans (as soon as the fight was made) that he hopes they are happy that hes going to get his azz kicked. Getting popped for mary jane..............again.Yet the fans are all firmly in his corner..Yeah hes a real pariah, not..

Well I don't like Evans, Mo, or Diaz.

That said, while King Mo shouldn't have called that Commissioner a bitch, it's LAUGHABLE, absolutely LAUGHABLE that he gets fired for that while Jacob Volkmann not only is still employed but getting fights with the UFC after the ******* Secret Service actually came to his house!

Maybe Zuffa wants to bring King Mo to the UFC but considering he just battled a serious bout with staph that nearly killed him and he's done for the rest of the year with his suspension it doesn't add up, when they cut Overeem they signed him and brought him to the UFC and booked him in a high profile fight within months. King Mo won't be fighting until atleast April of 2013.

The two situations are not even close to being the same. One person called the POTUS a dumbass and the other tested positive for a PED, got suspended, & then proceeded to call the NSAC commissioner a racist "B". If you can't see or tell the difference in the two situations, then there is zero hope for you.

Its just funny how chael sonnen can get caught for exuberant amounts of testosterone, boastfully chastise the NSAC for spotting a loophole in their system then get caught in real estate fraud. But the worse penalty he gets from zuffa is to have his contract "frozen". Which was just for show because he wasnt in any position to fight anyway due to being suspended.

Whereas mo gets the book thrown at him, very strange..

If strikeforce are still around in 9 months and mo isnt resigned or brought to ufc its going to look like one of 2 things. They cut mo to eliminate another draw for SF in a slow but crafty attempt to fold it. And or they arent a fan of his and used this as an excuse to finally server ties
