Stop this silliness.

If you are in the UFC and have any fear in your heart, you are in big trouble son.

If theres one thing that has been obvious to me from the very beginning, its that high level MMA fighters are completely fecking mad. To be able to do what they do. Climb into that cage at a UFC event to fight somebody who in 99% of cases can f*uck you up is you go in without maximum conditioning and confidence.

Some fighters fear losing. That much is obvious. GSP is the prime example.

Some fighters really couldn't give a shit. As long as they get to keep fighting. Lytle. Wandy. I suspect Dos Santos is this breed too. He is fearless.

BUT. Fearing other dudes in your division is not the mindset of a UFC calibre fighter. If that is your mindset, you wont get very far. That's my opinion.

I get what you are saying here, but I think your definition of what it means to be afraid is a little different.

I understand why it's a bad idea to SHOW fear.

It would be bad to let fear affect your gameplan, but everyone feels fear, the difference between success and failure is controlling it.

I don't believe anyone who says they aren't afraid in a fight. I believe they can control it, not that they don't feel it.

GSP is a perfect example of someone who feels it, but doesn't let it affect him, he keeps winning anyway. You look at someone like Thiago Alves, who comes across like a beast, but he was clearly afraid of GSP in their fight, of being taken down, and thats part of why he lost, he let it affect him.

Hell, some guys don't let it affect them enough. Sonnen would benefit from being a little more afraid of submissions

I saw a few posts saying that no professional fighter is afraid of anyone. While a fighter's emotion during a fight can't be known, there are many fighters who didn't fight their fight... and it's not because they were stuffed or taken down.

Here's a quick list of fighters that, if you look at how they fought previously, didn't fight the same against Silva:
-Franklin
-Leites
-Maia
-Belfort (for the first 3 minutes)

Again, I don't know whether or not they were afraid. So, yes... this is speculation. However, when you watch those fights, it makes it seem like a 12 year old fighting Silva. Watch any of their previous fights and you wouldn't get that impression.

Kalib Starnes is the only person I can think of who just looked visibly scared to fight.

the way fear effects fighters is more a fear of losing rather than the fight itself.. there is a lot on the line in these fights and when a fighter doesn't seem himself in a fight its because he fears losing. not so much that he fears a going toe to toe and getting a beatdown.
