Rally Over: Dana White: "Mark Hunt vs. JDS not happening"

The UFC is as real as it gets, and fans hoped that the Rocky story would come to real life, as a formerly 0-6 Mark Hunt would go 3-0 in the UFC, and get a shot at Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos when scheduled challenger Alistair Overeem flunked a PED test. But it is not to be so, at least not at present. Hunt is going to be fighting Stefan Stuve as schedule. Who Dos Santos will be facing remains unknown with any certainty.

While UFC President Dana White is fully aware the Nevada State Athletic Commission could still grant Alistair Overeem his fight license to challenge champion Junior dos Santos, the UFC president isn’t holding his breath the May 26th scrap will come to fruition.

Regardless, don’t expect for Hunt to receive the promotion should Overeem be pulled from the show’s featured attraction.

“[Fans] can keep rallying. It ain’t going to happen,” White flatly stated during Saturday’s “UFC on FUEL TV 2″ post-fight press conference.

If Hunt can get past Stefan Struve at UFC 146, White said he’ll then be assigned a Top 5 foe. A victory after that and maybe the organization will consider granting him a title shot.

Makes sense. Hunt would have been the least deserving guy to get a title shot since Dan Hardy.

lets be real, only person to step in for the Reem should needs be is Mir, there is no other option and thats exactly what will happen and rightfully so.

If Hunt vs Carwin would be a good move imo, Nelson would be fun also, in fact I would really love to see that one, but talk of JDS in the cage with Hunt is just Hunt fans getting a little over excited, there is a huge jump in ability when you start to move out of the top level in the UFC HW division,

I think even a rusty as hell Carwin would be kind of a big talent jump. People seem to forget that Hunt is the same guy that got taken down and easily subbed by Mousasi and mother lovin McCorkle. He has made a good deal of progess since then, but id bet good money that its not enough to fight off a takedown from Carwin, Mir, Cain, or any other actual HW with halfway decent wrestling.

I respect the UFC for even acknowledging this, it shows Dana and the organization at least give a shit about what the fans want and not what is most profitable, the fact that they took time to mention it considering it was just an internet not so srs suggestion means a lot.

And common sense prevails.

The HW division is at last pretty stacked, fairytale fights are a thing of the past.

I think the 'naysayers' took it more seriously than the Hunt fans did, to be honest. It was nothing more than harmless fun, and Hunt himself said, 'I'm not expecting to get that call'.
