Either you have the belt, or you don't.

I don't get why anybody is hating on this, how is this any different from the Gracies giving out belts for BJJ? Or any martial art giving out belts? Why is Greg Jackson not allowed to give out belts?
Quit hating folks...

I don't see the big deal everyone is making about belts. I remember the day I got my black belt. I was sitting on my couch, watching cartoons and eating fruit loops when I heard someone ring the door bell. It was UPS, took two weeks to get my black belt, left him a positive review on eBay.

Probably for the same reason people ridicule the leaders and followers of new religions, but don't do the same for established religions. I'm not sure exactly why that is, but people find it very difficult to accept these kinds of things immediately. And by immediately, I mean in the first 50, 100, 500 years. In the case of a Jackson MMA belt, maybe it takes 20 years for people to develop an understanding of what it means to have one?
(I hope this doesn't become a thread about religion now)

So is Jackson a black belt in Jackson MMA? Because that doesn't really make sense considering most of his students would probably destroy him in an MMA match.

Being a good teacher and being a good mma fighter are two different things. Ask Eddie Bravo if you don't believe me.

Because there's a clear purpose behind the ranking system in BJJ. The entire competitions are based on them to give everyone a fair shake and to better identify the top tier and experienced practioners. This is why they have World Championships at every belt ranking.
What the hell is the point of this...exactly? Going by this logic, Keith Jardine would be an MMA Black belt and would be ineligible to compete against say...Luke Rockhold unless Rockhold was competing in a hypothetical master's division. And MMA isn't a tournament sport....it's prizefighting.
This is just self-serving nonsense.
