I don't think people can grasp how good Hector is. I believe right now he could be a top five middleweight and top ten light heavyweight, my worry is that UFC doesn't like small fighters and they will push him into the shark tank that is 170. I'm a little surprised that people are still holding onto these ideals that the top guy in the division outside the UFC sucks. A number of the issues people have with Lombard they had with Overeem and Diaz and in those cases they were proved wrong. He's also moving into a division where your ranked more on your potential than your accomplishments. I mean Michael Bisping is now a top five MW and he's lost three fights to top ten MW's and has yet to get that big win.

Even bispings wins are more impressive for the most part. Diaz had doubters but his record was without a doubt better than Lombards. It isn't hard to look good fighting nobodies constantly. Overeem was more accomplished in the sense of wins and his K-1 background. Lombard makes his name pounding people who wouldt even get talked about with top fights period, let alone title fights in the UFC.

Based in his hype it's bad. People talk about him with people at the level of Silva, Belfort, Sonnen etc... Lombard is nowhere near proven himself enough to warrant that.

It's easy to gauge how good Lombard is. People who actually watch fights and can evaluate talent are basing their educated opinions on that.

The dude is 34 and probably not making any unforseen improvements anytime soon.

I'm certain he's at least better than Steve Cantwell

Though he doesn't have a chance in hell at getting passed Andy Craig.

That is the only reason I have any relative interest in him. All of his talk and all of the hype has me curious. By signing him DW either gets a legit talent, or proves that Bellator really doesn't have the level of fighters it thinks it does.

Miller, Rivera, Kang, Hamill, Akiyama, D. Miller, Sinosic, Leben

vs

Ebersole, Tehuna, Shlemenko, Prangley, Taylor, Vitale, Doerkson, Starnes, Takase

maybe but going fighter to fighter

Te'Huna > Hamill
Ebersole > Akiyama
Shlemenko > Leben
Viatke < Miller
Prangley < Miller
Doerkson > Sinosic
Taylor > Kang
Starnes < Rivera

I score it Lombard's quality wins 5 to Bispings 3.

Those "nobodies" these "cans" that Lombard has crush they have wins over Chris Leben, Chris Lytle, Patrick Cote, Tom Lawlor, Ed Herman, Riki Fukuda, Dennis Kang, Yushin Okami, Tom Watson, Drew Fickett, Keith Jardine, Travis Lutter, Chael Sonnen, Kendal Grove, Igor Pokrajac, Anthony Perosh, Carlos Newton, and oh yeah Anderson Silva.

Well I have two doubts

1. Lombard was never finished Overeem and Diaz where finished a combined 9 times.

2. Lombard has never lost a fight under unified rules. He has a cardio issue with ten minute rounds which I believe he's over.

Finally I apply the Jon Jones rule to Lombard, when fighters start ducking you and Dana doesn't trash you in the media that tells me that you're likely the real deal.

I could also put the people his competition has lost to.. That logic isn't great. Ebersole may have beaten some good names, but he also lost to Noke and was choked out by Bonnar in under a minute.

The point is that 90% of Lombards wins would never ever even be considered for UFC shots, yet he is defending his title against them. When you are top dog and still fighting Jesse Taylor and Kalib Starnes, the talent pool is way to shallow.

Doubt Lombard would be top 5 in the UFC.

He didn't lose to Kyle Noke, your facts are wrong. Also your logic sort of fails when you list four guys who fought for the UFC. If you want to see the real math

31% of his fights have been against former or future UFC fighters. If you factor in WEC, Strike Force, Pride, and Bellator that number rises up to about 70/80%.

Also I think your the top dog when guys like Marquardt Harris, Falcao and Babalu don't want to fight you. I would love to see Moussasi face Lombard under the unified MMA rules today. I would bet on Lombard.
