Phil Baroni: Let the fighters take roids!
Quote:
In a recent interview with fightsportsasia.com, “The New York bad ass” Phil Baroni said they should let fighters take steroids. His argument is he just wants to see the best fighters in the world compete no matter what they do or take. All though I understand where he’s coming from, I am not sure I agree.
Interviewer: Do you (like me) not care about the steroid issue and simply want to see the best fighters compete, or is it getting silly at this point and fighters should clean up?
Phil Baroni: I want to see the best fighters; I want to see who is the strongest the best!
Guys should be able to do what ever it takes to be the strongest. Getting choked and kicked in the head is really bad for you, worse than pot, trt, or steroids. I don’t care who’s the cleanest, I wanna’ see the strongest, the fastest and the most gnarly fighters.
I don’t want to see who is the best at passing drug test. Overeem isn’t the only guy taking shit, he just got caught. I wanna’ see the baddest mother ****ers going at it. That’s why pride was the best I wanna see a 205 (ripped) Wanderlei Silva kill dudes!

Phil has a point.
I ****ing hated getting kicked in the head

Ugh, always hated Baroni... This doesn't surprise me at all, if you want to see roided up freakshows, just watch WWE.

Well, at least I agree that an occasional joint is better then getting kicked in the head.

Shocked. I am shocked Phil Baroni does not have a well thought out, logical position on PEDs.
He hasn't been relevant in terms of winning fights in MMA for about... well.... ever, so I'm not going to give his opinion on PEDs much weight. Considering he was probably juiced to the eyeballs, and still couldn't beat anyone decent, I'm not sure why he would want to draw attention to the issue.

This isn't really that uncommon of a viewpoint.
However I really don't understand it, and I find it such a stupid, not-thought out opinion to have.
Sure you can have dudes roided out, especially if MMA is to remain a niche sport , but crossing into the mainstream, it'd look like a joke and a sideshow.
Look at the disgrace that baseball suffered when they went through their steroid era, it looks terrible in the public eye and relegates the sport to a circus attraction.
It's hard to justify a mainstream sport, one that's supposedly one of the safest sports in the world(according to White) one that's supposedly safer than boxing, and dudes have to inject roids to be competitive. How's it going to look when former fighters are dropping dead in their mid 50s because of the lifestyle of steroid abuse and fighting way too long in a sport where drug use can prolong your career.

I think fighters should be allowed to use whatever leading up to a fight as long as they piss clean on the night it shouldn't be an issue, the training can really take a lot out someone leading up to a fight, I mean you get injured before a fight that's no pay til your next fight, fighters will always do it on the sly

If you are going to let them take steroids in training you might as well not test.
That's the time when you are going to be getting the most results out of the injections in the first place.
Steroids aren't Popeye's spinache that turns you into Optimus Prime the day you inject it.

Perhaps Vince McMahon will see this as an opportunity to start a new breed of MMA fighting?
Introducing ...the MFC!
Mutant Fighting Championship!

Ideally, wouldn't steroids guarantee harder kicks on the head?
