A question about religion in MMA...

http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2010/9/11...da-talks-about

Siyar Bahadurzada is muslim. he is also afghani. he enters the ring in his afghani flag and wants the world to know who he is an where he is coming from. he also has strong opinions about the war.

he has a right to. he lived through it.

my question is a simple one. if like many american fighters Siyar started thanking his god and saying can i get an "Allahu Akbar" bendo style after the fights...how would that go down? and would you have a problem with it?

siyar...
"The issue that bothers me, an Afghan MMA fighter, the most is that Osama Bin Laden, this Arab moron (meaning he is not an Afghan and Afghans are NOT Arabs) spread so much hate between people that this costs people's lives still today; the innocent Afghans, as well as the heroic soldiers who fight terrorism! Osama Bin Laden has made it hard for every Muslim to speak openly about their religion and say proudly which religion they are practicing. It's even hard for Muslims to get a job and most people feel terrible about their (islamic) names since this terrible day... You know why?!

Yes, exactly... Osama bin Laden messed it up for the entire world and especially for the Muslims and Afghans!"

This is going to get interesting.

Chael said it best IMO.

"If I ever found out that God cared one way or another about a borderline illegal fist-fight on Saturday night, I would be so greatly disappointed that it would make rethink my entire belief system."

It would undoubtedly be met with boos anywhere in the States. Drunk people + any religion that's not Christianity is a bad combo.

I personally wouldn't care but I still think religion should be left at home or in interviews. It has no place in the octagon, IMO.

siyar has mentioned this. its not a bait thread, its a left field issue, but its a fair question i think.

In closing, America...**** yeah.

Only ignorant ppl will have a problem with it. He has every right to speak what he feels. And if someone has a problem with it because he is Muslim then thats their problem

I don't support any religion, but in complete honesty, if any brown person is yelling anything at all I get nervous. Nothing against the race, but let's just say they don't have the best track record of peaceful yelling or yelling followed by explosions.

I wouldn't care at all. I'd probably chuckle if he asked the crowd to give him an Allahu Akbar because it'd be met with either silence or boos.

But like G said, you'd only get upset if you're ignorant. If he wins and gets the mic, let him say whatever he wants.

Plus, he made Thiago plank in the ring, I love fighters who make other fighters plank. (No disrespect)
