So how about Alan Belcher???

Seriously the guy has looked extremely good lately. He is still only 28 years old, is on a 4 fight win streak with wins and finishes over some really tough fighters and he just completely destroyed Palhares - who was considered by so many to be the best on the ground. Belcher took everything tree stump threw at him and shook it off with ease.

The UFC really need to give Belcher a top MW and if he wins give him that title shot.

Belcher should get the winner of Munoz/Weidman and if he beats them, title shot for sure. Doesn't seem like The Talent gets enough love around here and has always been under the radar.

Thoughts?

I honestly felt sorry for the guy before the fight. I thought he was going to get his leg ripped off. Even during the fight when he escaped, I thought he was a fool to stay on the ground.

I've never really noticed him until this fight so I'm very impressed with him. He definitely is a top 185-lber now.

The UFC should give him an Avoiding a Nasty Submission of the Night bonus

I was absolutely amazed by that fight. Amazed by his submission attempts, amazed by his submission defense, and amazed by the balls the guy has. I was screaming at the TV "get off the ground!" but instead he stayed there and won there. That's ultra-impressive. Hope the guy's eye stays healthy because he's a force.

I wonder where he would be in the division if he never had that eye injury.

He is a tough fighter. He brings it in every fight, he has power in his hands, a solid chin and he is showing he has a ground game.

I cant imagine many MWs are jumping at the chance to fight Belcher.

Fav Fighters:

GSP
Askren
JDS
Belcher
Shogun
Fedor

I was screaming the same thing. And then when he started raining down big shots I said "or keep doing that".

He's young, skilled, and confident. Deadly combination

Hopefully he gets a step up in competition. Watching him stomp Bispings ass would be a good time.

Ive thought highly of this guy for a while now. The time off for the eye definatly sucked, but I think a huge set back was the loss to sexyama. I felt he won that fight, and would have been well on his way to having a name then, which was what 2 or 3 years ago?

Belcher is a fine fighter, but he isn't the best in the division, as he'd have you believe. The man lost to Sexyama for God's sake. And bad decision or not, he was unable to do what every other MW has been able to do - defeat Akiyama decisively. How that makes you better than all of those other MWs is beyond me. I don't buy into Belcher's self-hype, or Joe Rogan's fanboyism. Belcher is good. Quite good. But I'd not yet rank him alongside the elite of the division, as he simply hasn't proven it.

I'd match him up with Okami, just to see where he truly stands in the division. Despite the loss to Boetsch, Yushin is a tremendous test for most MWs.

He's looked pretty average in his fights against Akiyama and Cote. I'd rank him as a fringe top 10 fighter.
