JDS Sparring With Olympic Boxer...

Interesting video. This is why his boxing is pretty crisp in an MMA setting. The boxer although much smaller is actually pressing the action and landing majority of the blows.

BTW: There are some comments about it being Anderson Silva. Although fighting in a south paw stance it doesn't seem to resemble his fighting style.

I know this smaller guy has a definite speed advantage over JDS... but JDS' footwork and head movement looked pretty bad.

Finally watched a full boxing bout this weekend with Mayweather vs Cotto. I wouldn't say it's completely different, but the foot work and guard certainly is. You simply can't be flat footed or you know what's gonna happen. I got to appreciate boxing even more. But Muay Thai fighters would wreck boxers, and MMA fighters would destroy Muay Thai fighters. Waiting for an Olympic caliber boxer to cross train. I really wished Sapp would have signed the contract in K-1 vs Tyson. What a coward...

Bob Sapp challenging Tyson...he doesn't even flinch. Oh what a fight it would have been...

Although its good to use boxing to improve your footwork in MMA you really don't want to get caught boxing in most MMA fights. The one thing that JDS has going for him is that he is super athletic and he can use that right now in conjunction with his boxing to be successful in his fights. That's all fine and dandy until you run into some Chael Sonnen type fella that drives right through you and gets you onto your back.

I know I'll get some grief for this but you have to look at how GSP uses his boxing/kickboxing to neutralize incoming attacks. How often do we see him getting taken down? How often do we see him taking any significant shots? Anyways enough of my GSP nuthugging for now but its a style that works for him because he doesn't have the one punch knockout power that other guys have, and for that matter he doesn't have top level submissions from his back either.

We haven't seen JDS on his back yet but Mir might not be the best guy to test your bottom game with. Its great to see him boxing with a top level guy but he'd better not sit in the pocket too much or get caught flatfooted because Mir is likely going to be working very hard for a quick submission. I really don't think that Frank is going to want to bang with JDS much after what happened against Carwin. He'll probably test the waters and as soon as he gets tagged he's going for a limb.

Well. He outclassed the likes of CroCop and Yvel who are regarded as good strikers. The thing is that JDS is by far the best boxer in the UFC. Overeem does not exactly have great footwork himself. JDS has decent footwork, more speed and good combinations.

He also put on a clinic against Carwin.

1. JDS' defensive wrestling is top notch. Carwin couldn't keep him down at all in a 15 minute fight, and Cain got knocked out before even seeing an opportunity.

2. JDS had better not sit in the pocket with Mir? I think you've got that the wrong way around. Mir's chances of retaining his childhood memories decrease exponentially with every seconds he decides to stand in front of Junior.

3. This video is at least 6 months old. This isn't something he's doing specifically to prepare for Mir.
