Condit wants Kampmann rematch if GSP isn't ready.

UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit was a guest on HDNet's Inside MMA last night, and had some interesting things to say about his future. He's still firmly holding to the belief that waiting until November to fight UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and unify the belts is the right thing to do. But what if GSP hasn't fully healed from his ACL tear and can't compete in November? Condit says he will probably have to fight someone else, and he wants it to be a rematch (transcribed by MMA Mania):

Quote:
"If it turns out Georges can't fight in November, most likely, I will fight somebody else. I really wanna fight Georges. I really wanna unify the belts, but there's also some other guys that I would like to fight as well. You know, Martin Kampmann's the only guy that I've lost to in the UFC, the only guy I've lost to in about the last six years, so I would definitely like to avenge that loss."

The timing of all this will be interesting. How long will it take GSP to figure out that he's not ready to fight in November if that is indeed is the case? Would there be enough time to make this bout for the November card instead? Is that even something the UFC would be looking at, or would Johny Hendricks be a more suitable opponent for Condit? Many questions still need answers before we'll have a clearer picture of the welterweight title picture, that's for sure.

I think that's a smart choice, seeing that Condit most definitely won the first fight imo.

Really liked their first fight, would love to see a rematch if GSP's not ready to go.

From watching that video earlier it looks like GSP is still a ways away but still has the hunger to get back to 100%. I think Condit and Kampmann should just book a fight, do it and have GSP on the New Years card against the winner, but I just enjoy seeing these guys fight every 3 months so that might be a tough sell.

Kampmann is undergoing knee surgery so I doubt he'll be ready to go anyway. If he is, though, I would definitely like to see Kampmann-Condit II and have the winner fight a healthy and prepared GSP.

Does it have any relation to smashing Ellenberger with it?

It is my opinion that Kampmann is more deserving of the shot than Hendericks. Let that prima donna find something else to do.

Lol. I wonder if he actually considers himself a champion, and if his interim belt means anything.

He's at the very least the Linear Strikeforce champion.
