Erik Koch Will Wait for Jose Aldo

Quote:
With Jose Aldo injured and out of UFC 149, the formal announcement from UFC officials was that his bout with Erik Koch would be ‘postponed’ and now that has been confirmed.

Sources close to Koch’s camp indicated when speaking to MMAWeekly.com that the Duke Roufus trained featherweight will indeed sit out of UFC 149 and await Aldo’s return to action.

There has been no confirmed detail regarding the nature of Aldo’s injury, but additional sources have stated that the Brazilian won’t be out for an extended period of time to cause further delays to his next title defense.

A report from Yahoo! states that Aldo suffered a left thigh strain that ultimately caused him to pull out of the fight.

Aldo has yet to comment on his injury since the announcement was made over the weekend.

The only downside is the injury, minor or not, is that it was bad enough to force him out of UFC 149 in late July.

Koch has been out since last September when he defeated former Ultimate Fighter winner Jonathan Brookins. By the time he is able to return against Aldo it will likely be more than a year since his last trip to the Octagon.

Since Aldo’s injury happened, the UFC moved over the UFC 148 co-main event between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao, as they battle for the UFC interim bantamweight title, over to UFC 149 as the new headline fight.

There’s been no official word on when Aldo vs. Koch might happen, but with the injuries mounting, the sooner the better once the Brazilian champion is recovered.

Makes sense. He'd lose his shot were he to fight either KZ or Poirier.

Considering he only got the shot since KZ and Poirier were booked and Hioki wanted to take another fight hopefully this doesn't happen and he's forced to fight someone.

Not only it was ridiculous that he was given a title shot,
it's even more ridiculous that the UFC is letting him wait for it.

Once upon a time, there were some fighters who were willing to fight anyone, anytime, to prove themselves and earn titles, belts, fame and the respect of millions arround the world.

Nowadays though...it seems like the WAITING GAME is the way to do it.

He's not gonna get it. Nobody ever gets their title shot after waiting. He's gonna get injured and he'll have to take another fight before he gets Aldo.

What's that? My promotion is being postponed for review? Alright I will wait it out at home to avoid messing it up.

That's ridiculous. Wasn't this guy's last fight on the undercard? And Jones is the one who gets called cocky.

If nothing else, this "I'm going to wait attitude" proves that the belts do carry a lot of merrit contrary to somewhat popular belief. Whether it's the paycheck associated, the pride, or both... most of these guys clearly care more about carrying that gold then staying active.
